situation and cannot call 911. If there is an emergency and you
are unable to call 911, take these steps:
1. Enter 911 in the “To” field.
2. Text your exact address and type of emergency.
3. Send the message.
4. Use simple words but do not include Abbreviations or emoji's.
5. Promptly answer questions and follow instructions.

A Million Thanks! SVABW provides crisis support, advocacy, and
education to victims of domestic violence and their
children. SVABW partners with law enforcement,
county legal systems (including Scott County
Attorney’s Office), and care providers of Scott and
Carver counties to make them a better place to
live. SVABW and the SCAO Victim Services
personnel work closely with each other in
supporting victims and assisting them through the
criminal justice system. Thank you Scott County
Attorney’s Office for your generous donation of
$7,000! We appreciate your partnership! (Pictured

Attorney, Ron Hocevar) (credit: Scott County Scene)
After receiving the disheartening news that the Greater
Twin Cities would be defunding SVABW as of January 1,
2018, we reached out to many of our current donors
requesting them to increase their giving levels. Many
individuals, organizations, churches and groups have done
just that and we thank them all! One group in particular
really stepped up to the plate on this ask. We requested
that the Shakopee Edina Realty Office double their grant
amount from $2,500 to $5,000. Instead of granting us the
requested amount, they returned to us with a grant amount
of $7,500!!

Gifts of Hope 2017
We assisted 49 Women and their 125 children this year!
Thank you to the many churches, businesses and individuals who donated
all of the gifts, household items, toiletries and blankets that the women
received. There were many tears of joy!
We were graced with the help of Deputy Aszmann, Deputy
Lueck, & Sheriff Hennen from Scott County to assist us
with loading up the women's cars with all of their goodies!
Thank you for your help again this year!!
Glendale Elementary 5th grade students held a book drive
and collected over 500 books for our Gifts of Hope Event!!
We appreciate your hard work, kids!
Elko New Market Officer Wirtz was
a huge help in getting all of the
women’s items into their vehicles
again this year! She opted for the
reindeer look this year instead of
Santa. Thank you Officer Wirtz for
your expert car packing skills!
Blake Rasmusson is only 5 years old but in an effort to help those that may not have presents to open at Christmas time he did 2 things: *He had a craft night where kids could come and make crafts with him. Each child paid $5 to participate OR they could bring a new toy. *He also made gift tags from old Christ-mas cards and sold them as a way of making more money. All money raised was spent on new toys for the needy children!
Without the help of these students at SW Metro Intermediate #288 and
New Beginnings (not pictured), SVABW would not be able to set up our
Gifts of Hope event in time. These wonderful kids hauled items up from our
donation center and organized toys. We appreciate their help every year!
