This annual Christmas masterpiece of compelling and eloquent carols and stories never disappoints.

Adapted, designed & directed by Jim Morrow Music by Steven NaylorNarration by Gordon Pinsent

Three beloved stories by Eric Carle, award-winning children’s book illustrator and author, are retold on stage through the magic of black light and fanciful puppets.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar& other Eric Carle Favouritesfrom Mermaid Theatre Michael Kaeshammer has been called a

triple-threat combo of piano virtuosity, vocal ability and charisma. His sound is a singular brand of pop tinged jazz that owes as much to Billy Joel and Paul McCartney as to Professor Longhair and Albert Ammons. Let Michael invite you in and take you on a musical journey.

Audience meet and greet after

the performance.

A LOOK BACKAT 2014

12

As we wave goodbye to 2014 I would like to thank everyone for their support of the What’s On! Ridge Meadows Magazine. I’m looking forward to an exciting and positive 2015 personally and professionally.

Our community is busy this November and December. We have a number of events scheduled such as: arts and craft shows, concerts, live theatre and of course, the many Christmas Festivities. All of these events, new and old, provide something exciting to do in Ridge Meadows this season.

This is also a great time of the year to assist others in our community. There are many local organizations who rely on volunteers

to help others in need. Taking the time to give back is a great way to stay connected and make a difference. After all “many hands make light work.”

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy andHealthy 2015

This event will showcase the top women curlers in the province competing to become the BC representative at the Scotties National Tournament of Hearts to be held in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, February 14-22, 2015.

Over the years the Golden Ears Winter Club has been represented well at the BC Scotties. Maple Ridge’s Hometown Hero Kelley Law, a six time winner of the BC Scotties, still shares the record when it comes to BC women’s curling success. Kelley represented the Golden

While CurlBC covers some of the costs of the event, there are many costs involved in hosting an event such as this. If you, your company, or organization is interested in being involved as a sponsor for the 2015 BC Scotties,

sponsorship information can be found at http://gewc.ca/events/bc-scotties/.

We also need volunteer assistance before and during the event. To volunteer for helping at the 2015 BC Scotties Women’s Curling Championship please visit the GEWC website at http://gewc.ca/events/bc-scotties/volunteer/.

Tickets for the championship will be available in November, at the Golden Ears Winter Club, and are reasonably priced at $35 for the full event pass, day passes are $10, and single draw passes are $6. Admission is free on January 21st for the opening

Royal Canadian LegionRemembrance Day Ceremonies

In Flanders field, the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved, and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;

To you from falling hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die,

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields

John McCrae (1872 - 1918)

Lest we forget...On November 11 Canadians wear poppies and gather at war memorials across Canada to pay tribute to those who died in war. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the time the Armistice of World War I was signed in 1918, we observe two minutes of silence to remember.

On Tuesday, November 11……at 10:30 am, the parade leaves the Legion on 224th Street and heads into downtown Maple Ridge, ending at the cenotaph in Memorial Peace Park. After

am. Our MC for this event is Margaret Kury.

In Pitt Meadows the Parade marches to the Cenotaph at Spirit Square. Sandi Wight will MC the Ceremony there at 11am.

Each ceremony includes reading of the names of soldiers from the community who have died in wars, the Laying of the Wreaths (from organizations or individuals in the communities), a blessing, a reading of the poem “In Flander’s Fields”, and the playing of the Last Post.

Please join the Legion to honour the men and womenwho so bravely served and continue to serve our community.

I know from personal experience, and as the proud owner of the Maple Ridge and Chilliwack 30 Minute Hit locations, that women want more than just a workout at the gym. We thrive when we work with, and are supported by, other incredible women. At our locations, we create a community that is more than just a women's only gym. Our members enjoy the atmosphere as well as an amazing 30 minute workout that has been proven to give results with just three visits a week!

I am excited about the community of Hitters and the atmosphere in my locations. Many of my members have told me they hated the gym but love coming to workout at 30 Minute Hit! My members find there’s a unique culture and a real sense of community which helps to really take the chore out of working out! It brings a whole new level of fun, empowerment and confidence to their lives.

My qualified trainers and I work beside our members at every workout. We ensure they’re receiving excellent instruction and assistance plus all the motivation they need to excel through their workout. They leave each 30-minute session sweaty, strong, and with a smile! It truly is an incredible workout!

I invite you to come by and meet me and my fabulous trainers. Book your FREE Trial today and make the positive change you’ve been craving!

Looking for a

Home to Call Their Own.

Crushy Crush came to us earlier this year. He had originally been trapped as a feral, neutered, and released. When he was recaptured he came to us. Within a few short weeks he went from a skittish, scared, semi feral cat to the sweetest little boy. Not only is Crush remarkably adorable, but he also has a great personality. Although he is still a little shy, he will follow you around and do just about anything to get your attention. Crush is young and will probably be happiest in a home where he will have other feline playmates.

This sad face belongs to Rainey who came to us from another shelter. She was found as a stray, and it was clear that any home she may have had in the past had neglected her. Rainey is about 8 to 10 years old. When she was found she was thin, dirty, her nails had grown into her pads and were infected. Rainey has obviously been through a lot, and although she is not aggressive or mean she is a bit weary of humans. Who can blame her. Rainey needs a quiet home, where we are sure she will make someone a loving, devoted companion.

Helpful Drycleaning advice from Brenda at West Ridge Drycleaners:

Call: (604) 459-1147 www.westridgedrycleaners.comwww.facebook.com/westridge.drycleaners

In West Ridge Centre at Lougheed & 207th Street #13 20691 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge

Hours: Monday - Friday 7am to 6pm • Saturday - 9am to 5pmSame Day Service if dropped off by 10am!

Now is a great time to bring in your sleeping bags to Brenda at Westridge Drycleaners, before you store them for the winter. It’s best not to store sleeping bags that are dirty. Whether they are filled with down or synthetic fibers, remnant body oils and dirt can affect their insulation.

And as the weather cools, it’s time to freshen those comforters and quilts.

Quilts and comforters that are used on a daily basis usually need to be washed once per year. However, if you have pets or children, you may want to have them cleaned more often.

Don’t try using your home washing machine if it has an agitator in it as the agitators can tear sleeping bags and put unnecessary stress on comforters. These big items can also be too heavy and cause damage to your machine and that damage is not generally covered under warranties.

The drying process is also a very important step. Down filling must be completely dry to avoid the formation of mildew.

When bringing in large items, please note that the cleaning process takes a lot of time; drying alone can take up to 12 hours. Give us enough time to ensure the job is done right for you.

Feel free to stop in and ask Brenda. With over 30 years of drycleaning and pressing experience she’s your fabric and drycleaning expert.

It’s time to have your sleeping bags and comforters cleaned!
