Welcome Back to School

It was exciting to see all our students back in school last week and to meet the new kindergarten students at T. J. Connor, and the new sixth-grade students at the Middle School. Students and staff spent the week getting to know each other and their new schedules. It was great to see everyone’s smiling faces.

Kindergarten Students Learn to Ride the Bus

Once again, incoming kindergarten students at T. J. Connor participated in a bus orientation before the start of school. During this orientation, students learned important information about bus safety, including how to be safe on the bus and while crossing the street. Kindergarteners also experienced

their first bus ride. Parents had the opportunity to discuss any concerns with Cindy Kwiatkowski, Transportation Director, and meet other parents of kindergarten students. Many thanks to Cindy K. and

the participating bus drivers for another informative and exciting orientation.

HS Piano Class Offers Students an Alternative Musical Learning Experience

Beginner Piano is a High School elective that allows students with little or no experience to learn the basics of reading music and performing on the piano, while

giving students already in Band or Chorus the opportunity to learn a new instrument. Using the electric pianos in our Music Lab, students receive both group instruction and individual attention during independent practice time. More

advanced students have the opportunity to work at their own pace and explore additional music. Mr. Zimmerman is doing a great job with the course and we appreciate his efforts.

Homecoming at MS/HS Comes Early this Year

Homecoming is a wonderful way to get the school year off to a great start for all. The celebration is very early this year due to the soccer schedule, so Spirit Week started Monday, September 8. The themes for this week were as follows:

Monday: Roll out of bed day

Tuesday: Dress-up day (Also school photos) Wednesday: Western day

Thursday: Blue and white day

Friday: Class color day

The homecoming parade is at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning with festivities at the school to follow. Which class will win the

float competition this year? Come out and see our students in action with soccer games to follow all day. A Middle School dance will be held Saturday from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with a High School dance to follow from 9-11 p.m.

Wheatland-Chili JV and Varsity Sports in full swing

Each of our District’s Fall sports programs are now competing on a weekly basis. Our teams began

practicing on August 18, and have been working six days a week since this time to train for this phase of their respective seasons. Our Modified teams began their practice schedule on Friday, September 5, and are preparing for their game seasons which start in just a few short weeks.

Here is a run-down of their successes so far:

Soccer: The boys JV team has won all three of its games, and the boys Varsity team has had wins against Albion and Northstar/Finney. The Varsity boys lost in a tough battle against Kendall on Monday night, and will play Geneseo this Saturday at 1 p.m. (JV) and 3 p.m. (Varsity). The girls soccer teams are off to a great start to their seasons as well.

Volleyball: Our team lost its first match of the season to Alexander this past Monday night, and had their home debut on Wednesday at Wheatland.

Cross Country: Our co-ed team participated in the Oakfield-Alabama “Dash in the Dark” relay on Friday

night, but unfortunately the event ended early due to lightning. The team, last year’s Section V Champions, had their first league meet on Tuesday night at Oatka Creek Park.

Interested in watching Wildcats Sports in action? You can always look up schedules and scores by visiting the Genesee Region Athletic Association website at www.geneseeregionaa.org.

T. J. Connor Movie Night

The first movie night at T. J. Connor was held outside this year on September 5.

Families gathered in the back of the building to watch The Lego Movie under the stars while enjoying some treats. During the day, staff and students wore “Super Padraig” shirts to show their support for Padraig Crowley. Proceeds from this

event went to support the

Crowley family. A fun night was had by all.

T. J. Connor Students “Run for Life”

In conjunction with New York Road Runners Association, T. J. Connor students in grades two through four have joined an exciting new program called "Mighty Milers.” This program was developed to encourage students to gain an enjoyment for running and to stay fit. The motto of this program is "Run For Life.” The goal of the program is to have every student run the equivalent of a marathon (26.2 miles) during the school year. We use our weekly fitness classes along with some of our regular Physical

Education class time to work on reaching our goal. Each student who completes the 26.2 mile goal will receive a Mighty Milers

membership card along with a

medal recognizing their achievement. This fall, 126 students received medals for their participation in the

program last spring. This year, students will have the opportunity to earn other awards such as pencils, magnets, wristbands, books, and t-shirts. This is a great fitness opportunity for our T. J. Connor students.

District Girls’ Soccer Teams Participate in the Megan Carl

Tournament

Our girls JV soccer won the first round of the 17th Annual “Megan Carl Tournament,” their first tournament win in many years. The Varsity girls soccer won the championship game of the tournament, defeating Letchworth in the first round and Geneseo in the second round this past Saturday night.

HS Kayaker Spends Summer on the Water

You may not be aware that we have a champion kayak racer among us at the

High School. Without saying much about it or drawing attention to himself, Aaron Berghash spends much of his summer going to kayak races around the United

States. Most recently he traveled to the national competition in Georgia as well as a distance race in Wells Bridge (NY), where he placed first. This is a unique talent that Aaron pursues with both great commitment and determination. Good luck to him as he continues to push himself in this sport and congratulations on his accomplishments.

Where Are Our Graduates?
