Royal Navy Reserves

The RNR provides specific capabilities that the Navy needs to succeed in operations. Without the contribution of the Reserves, the Royal Navy could not conduct its many activities from anti-piracy, counterterrorism, or delivering humanitarian aid. When new members of the RNR complete their basic training, they join one of five branches. These are Warfare, Information, Engineering, Logistics and Medical. Within each branch, there is a wide range of roles which members of that branch can be trained to undertake. HMS King Alfred is the south coast unit which is situated on Whale Island in Portsmouth.
