INAUGURAL CEREMONIES
January 20. 1969 - After all parties at the Inaugural
Ceremonies are seated Senator Dirksen will speak briefly
welcoming the people to the Inauguretion. He will be followed
by the Right Reverend Charles Eubank Tucker, B~ahop. African
Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. who will make the Invocation.
The United States Marine Band will play "God Bless America".
then there will be a prayer by Rebbi Edgar S. Magnin. Wilshire
Boulevard Temple. Los Angeles, California. The Oath of Office
will be administered to Vice PresidQnt Spiro T. Agnew by the
Honorable Everett McKinley Dirksen. Iwmediately following this
there wIll be a prayer by His Eminence Iakovos, Metropolitan
of the Greek Orthodox Church of North and South Americe. Thia
will be followed by the Mormon Taberancle Choir singing "This
Is My Country.
There will be a prayer by the Reverend Billy Graham.
The President, the Chief Justice and Mrs. Nixon will
arrive snd walk to the podium. There will be large dots on
the floor with arrows indicating the way they are to face.
Mr. Mark Trice will then place the two family Bibles in
Mrs, Nixon's handa.
NOTE: THE TWO BIBLES ARE VERY HEAVY AND ARE TO BE
HELD UNTIL THE COMPLE7ION OF WE DArn. MARK TRICE WILL
IMMEDIATELY TAlCE. mE BIBLES FROM MRS. NIXON WHEN mE OATH
IS COMPLETED,

All parties remain standing through Ruffles and Flourishes
and "Hail to the ehieL" Mrs. Nixon will then be escorted to
her seat. The President remains standing through the 21 Gun
Salute.
At this point in the program the President ~ill make
his Inaugural Address. At the conclusion of the Inaugural Address tha Mormon
Tabernacle Choir will sing and the United States Marine Band will play our National Anthem. All remain standing until the snd of the benediction by the Most Reverend Terence J. Cooke, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York.
The President, Mrs. Nixon and honored guests will then be escorted to the capitol. At the top of the steps, the Senatli!
Aides will continue to walk into th~.oow. The President will then turn, face the crowd for a moment and then go into the
Capitol.

The Urban Coelltion was formed in Au.gu.st, 1961 after
a IIlUIiDler of rioting. Ite purpose is to illlprove the quality
or liroe 1n our cities by involving the private sector.
As of October 21. 1968 there were 39 local cosl1t1ons.
The membership of these local coalitions glenerally inciudes
members of minority groups and leadership segments of tbe-. cOllllllunity such as the mayor, businessmen, labor. churches.
ne.s media and the proreslions.
Tss~ Forces have been set up in the follo.ing areas:
0) )Ianpo.er: considering the establishment of s nonprofit
corporat10n to create jobs snd match them .1th the skiils
or the unemployed.
(2) Economic Development: have created two corporations;
one to give Short term loans to minority group businessMl>n.
ths other to give managerial snd technical advice.
(3) Education: have created some schools for drop_outs.
(~) Rousing: working on privatsly sponsored housing projects.
