LEARN TO SWIM AT THE Y.For many, the YMCA was where one learned how to swim as a child and for good reason. Since 1885, the Y has been a pioneer in swimming education. Literally millions of people have learned to swim through the YMCA’s perfected program. In Y Swim Lessons participants learn and practice new swimming skills and feel a sense of achievement from mastering something new that they can enjoy the rest of their lives.

Level 1: Pike The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 3: Ray In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Goldfish Swim is for participants who need more individualized attention, have diverse abilities, need more practice time and has 3-to-1 ratio class. The class uses equipment appropriate for students needing extra support and assistance. Class instructors are trained Adaptive Aquatics instructors with experience working with and teaching mainstream, semi-private, and private classes for individuals with special needs

Born to Move This class introduces fundamental movement skills using fun rather than formal exercise routines. Teachers can focus on two options, either foundation and games or dance. Children of this age are primarily visual learners and emphasis is on easy to copy moves. The content is co-created with young people and music is drawn from their world. *Reduced fees for multiple days.

Karate Beginners level instruction. Some physical contact involved. Students will need to purchase/wear dojos by second week. Registration is required. Students who pass belt levels will qualify to compete in tournaments.

YBA Popcorn All Stars Registration is required: The South Side YMCA's Youth Basketball Association is a developmental basketball league for young boys and girls, 4-7 years. The Popcorn League focuses mainly on learning sportsmanship and team work; as well as the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, with practice games. Program runs from October 11, 2014 to May 2, 2015.

Youth Intro Soccer Our coach has 30+ years of experience playing and coaching soccer to youth and adults. The clinics are open for beginners to advanced. All participants will be learning, practicing and improving their soccer skills in: dribbling, passing, trapping and shooting. Scrimmages and league games will be played on Saturdays. Players will need to purchase shin guards and shoes. Practice balls, nets and jerseys will be supplied.

Level 1: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive.

Level 3: Minnow In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 3 minute.

Level 4: Fish In this class swimmers will learn to tread water for 5 minutes; swim 100 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 100 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 25 yards butterfly.

Level 5: Flying Fish In this class, swimmers will learn to swim a 100 medley relay with proper starts and turns. Swimmers will also learn proper form while swim 100 yards of front crawl, back crawl, elementary back stroke and side stroke with scissor kick. Swimmers will also learn how swim 50 yards breaststroke and butterfly with fins.

Level 6: Shark Swimmers with learn to swim a 200 yard individual medley as well as a relay with proper starts and turns. Participants will also learn to swim front crawl, back crawl, elementary back stroke, and breast stroke for 100 yards each with appropriate turns and starts. This is a pre-competitive swim level.

Goldfish Swim This program is focuses on those children with swim special needs and autism. With a 1 to 3 student teach ratio; children will receive the individual attention they need when developing basic swim skills.

Swim Club is designed for children who need an extra push and are ready for the competition levels. All swimmers must try out first or be invited.

Born to Move In this class, teachers show participants how to do moves from dance, martial arts and yoga. It includes great music and games to keep things interesting while developing fitness skills. The instructor will adapt their approach to match participant mood and energy levels so everyone leaves class feeling great. *Reduced fees for multiple days.

Youth Volleyball This all-skills Volleyball program will ignite and excite students about the fun competition of volleyball. Players will develop fundamental skills including serving, passing, setting, and hitting. Skills based drills, as well as 3 vs. 3 or 6 vs. 6 wave competition drills, will be used to apply these skills at a high pace. Players will have the opportunity to encompass all these skills into game situations that concludes each day while learning the importance of team play.

YBA Youth Basketball Division YBA DIVISIONS: 8-17. The YBA Divisions is for our older children. It is broken down into 3 groups: D-League: 8-10 / Rookie: 11-13 / Junior: 14-17. This group picks up where Popcorn left off. We change the focus from just the fundamentals to how those fundamentals apply in a game situation. This group will learn skills and play games October 11, 2014 - May 2, 2015. *Participants will meet one day during the week and play on Saturdays. Those days will be determined after the start of the clinics.

Karate All Ages: Intermediate/Advanced Earn advanced level belt rankings, spar, and depending on the level, compete in tournaments and championships! Some physical contact involved. Students will need to purchase/wear dojos by second week of class.

Dance Fushion Participants will learn choreography and rehearse for a final show. Students will learn a variety of dance genre with a focus on ballet.

Cheerleading Participants will have fun in this new cheer class. Each student will learn the fundamental cheer techniques for sideline and half time cheering.

Before and After School Programs-Developing Character in a Safe and Nurturing Environment. The Y's before and after school enrichment programs are designed to meet the developmental needs of children with emphasis on experiential learning, social and emotional support and promotion of healthy living while meeting the needs of working parents and their families. Transportation is provided but can also be a la carte.

Kids Day Out - Keeping Kids Safe and Engaged When School is Out. When school's out, the Y is there to keep kids safe and engaged in fun, healthy activities. Our winter break options are designed to engage children in healthy physical activity and foster positive social interactions. Our programs offer the highest quality instruction and supervision, provided by trained and qualified staff members.

Parents Night Out Bring your kids every second Friday of the month to the Y for an evening of fun and activities. Each month we will entertain your children by doing great activities such as; swimming, sports, crafts, and a snack. Our fun and safe environment gives parents peace of mind while they have an evening off.

Body Sculpting 101 Mens/Womens Body Building/Sculpting using free weights and body weights. Coached by our own "natural" body builders: Claudia Hervey & Ty Bynum. Classes are limited to three students to ensure proper form and results.

Core Interval Core intense classes aimed at improving strength, stability and core flexibility. Utilizes medicine balls, stability and bosu balls. Join us for a physical and motivating workout that will call you back for more.

Hula Hoops & Core Trim your hips, abs, and core with this fun and fabulous hula hoop workout!

Kettlebells This class consist of a full-body warm-up, and progresses into practicing the foundation and fundamentals of Kettlebell swings, lifts, presses, squats, halos, Turkish get-ups, half-get-ups, and various moves to increase strength, improve cardiovascular endurance, enhance and improve flexibility, to ensure your success in losing body fat.

TRX Training TRX Suspension training utilizes your own body weight in each exercise, allowing you to choose the level of intensity that is right for you. Over the course of the program, your TRX trainer will lead you through a series of progressive total body workouts that combine dynamic strength and flexibility exercises.

Boot Camp This is type of outdoor group exercise class that mixes traditional calisthenic and body weight exercises with interval training and strength training.

Les Mills Grit High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Plyometric-based workout, designed to make you perform like an athlete. This work out uses a bench and combines explosive jumping exercises with agility training. This class is not recommended for beginners. *Daily and unlimited pricing options available.

Flirty Fabulous Females Participants will learn Flirty Fabulous dance choreography with strength given purpose. This program is for women that want to work their entire body while targeting specific muscle groups with fun, non-stop cardo dance moves.

Teen Beginner: This class is for teens who have little to no swim experi-ence. The instructor will work with the students as a group and one-on-one. Students will learn to swim basic front crawl, elementary back stroke, float-ing and proper breathing techniques.

Teen Intermediate: This class if for teens who have swim experience with swimming. Students should be comfortable in the water to be in this class. Teens will learn how to swim proper front crawl, back crawl, side stroke and breast stroke.

Adult Beginner: This class is for adults who have little to no swim experience. The instructor will work with the students as a group and one-on-one. Students will learn to swim basic front crawl, elementary back stroke, floating and proper breathing techniques.

Adult Intermediate: This class if for adults who have swim experience with swimming. Students should be comfortable in the water to be in this class. Teens will learn how to swim proper front crawl, back crawl, side stroke and breast stroke.

Adult Advanced: This class if for adults who want to have their strokes critiqued and developed. Swimmers will learn to build up their endurance as well as proper turns at the wall. This class is great for those who want to improve their lap swimming or are interested in training for a triathlon.
