EOS Utility ModeInfrastructure Network Setup

1Double-click the Wireless Network icon located on the Taskbar, at the lower right corner of your screen.

Initial Setup – Windows XP

OverviewThis section will describe how to set up a WFT EOS Utility Mode infrastructure network on a WiFi-en-abled PC running the Professional edition of Win-dows XP or Windows 7. You will also need a current version of EOS Utility installed on your PC’s hard drive.

EOS Utility Mode allows you to wirelessly control your camera through Canon’s EOS Utility software interface, which provides Live View func-tionality, movie mode, and the ability to wirelessly

transfer images from a single camera to a single remote computer.

An infrastructure setup allows you to access an available wireless network through an access point such as a wireless network router. This setup pro-vides for a network login name and password. Do not attempt to change the settings on any computer or network without the explicit permission of the owner or administrator.

2Double-click the Wireless Network Connection icon.

3Select the name of the wireless network you want to access. Note: If this is a remote network you will need to know its security settings and login requirements.

EOS Utility Setup

1Launch EOS Utility. Click the Preferences button at the lower right corner of the window.

Initial Setup – Windows 7

1Click the Wireless Network icon located on the Taskbar, at the lower right corner of your screen. A wireless network list will appear.

2Select the name of the wireless network you want to access. Note: If this is a remote network you will need to know its security settings and login requirements.

2On the Preferences window, select Add WFT Pairing to the Startup Folder, then click OK.

3Quit EOS Utility. Windows users should see a new camera icon icon on the task bar at the bottom-right of the screen.

Camera/WFT Setup

1Turn on the camera and WFT unit.Press the MENU button on the camera.Navigate to the first Tool menu.Select [WFT Settings].

2Select [Connection wizard].

3Select [EOSUtility].Select [OK].

4Select [Wireless].Select [OK].

5Select [Connect with wizard]. Select [OK].

6Select the wireless network ID that is being distributed by your router (the same one you selected in the initial setup. Select [OK].

7Select a Key format number. The number you choose must match the number of digits avail-able or necessary for the login ID. Select [OK].

8Enter the login ID you need to access the wire-less network. If you don’t know it, request this information from the system administrator. Press the Menu button on the camera to select [OK].

9It may take a few seconds for the WFT to con-nect to wireless network. When it does, you will see this screen. Select [Auto setting], then select [OK].

10When the Start pairing devices screen appears, select [OK].

The screen will change to indicate that the WFT is ready for pairing and waiting for you to launch the pairing software on your computer.

11The pairing software will notify you that it has detected an EOS camera.

13Refer to the LCD screen on your camera to confirm that it has connected to your computer. Select [OK].

14Give your settings a Set number to save them for easy retrieval. You can choose any number from 1 - 4. Select [OK].

12When the WFT Pairing Software window opens, click the name of the camera you wish to connect to, then click the Connect button.

When you have finished using EOS Utility mode, return to the WFT settings menu to select [Disconnect.]

To reconnect, return to the WFT settings menu to select the mode and WFT account you previously set-up. Because the IP address is dynamically assigned by your service provider, it may change from one session to the next. If it has changed, you will need to re-enter the new IP address.

How to Reconnect

15EOS Utility will launch. You will have access to the same fea-tures and functions you would if the camera was connected to the computer by a USB cable. The only difference is that a wireless connection has less bandwidth and is more sensitive to disruptions in the data flow. To avoid disruptions use JPEG format only. When shooting at high frame rates, reduce the pixel dimensions and increase the compression ratio.

EOS Utility ModeAd Hoc Network SetupOverviewThis section describes how to set up an ad hoc WFT EOS Utility Mode network on a WiFi-enabled PC running the Professional edition of Windows XP or Windows 7. You will also need a current version of the Canon EOS Utility application installed on your PC’s hard drive.

An ad hoc setup allows you to create a simple wireless network with only a WFT and a WiFi-com-patible computer. No wireless router or other access point is necessary.

EOS Utility Mode allows you to wirelessly con-trol your camera through Canon’s EOS Utility soft-ware interface, which provides Live View functional-ity, movie mode, and the ability to transfer images from a single camera to a single remote computer.

Do not attempt to change the settings on any computer or network without the explicit permission of the owner or administrator.

Initial Computer Setup–Windows XP

1From the Windows XP desktop, click:

3From the Wireless Network Connection Properties window:

1. Click the Advanced tab.2. Click the checkbox beside Allow

other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection.

3. Clear the Allow other users to control or disable this shared connection checkbox.

2Right-click on the icon for your wireless network controller. From the resulting drop-down menu, select Properties.

4Click the Wireless Networks tab, then click the Add button below Preferred Networks.

5On the Association tab, enter the name you want for your ad hoc network in the Network name field. Select the This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network checkbox. Clear the The key is provided for me automatically check box. Below Wireless Network Key, enter:

Network Authentication: OpenData Encryption: WEPNetwork key: Enter a 5-digit security key Confirm network key: Re-enter the 5-digit WEP security key

Click OK to save changes to the wireless net-work and again to save changes to the wireless network adapter.

7Click the User configured radio button. Enter an IP address that does not conflict with any other address in use. In this example we have used 192.168.3.100. Windows XP will enter the subnet mask numbers automatically. Click OK to save your settings. You can now move on to WFT Setup.

6Return to the Wireless Network Connection Properties window (Step 3). Click the Gen-eral tab, then double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list of available items.

Initial Computer Setup–Windows 7 Professional

1From the Windows 7 desktop, click the Start button (Windows icon), type “wireless” into the search field, then press the [Return] key. From the list that appears, click Manage wireless networks.

2Click Add on the menu bar to add a new network.

3On the new window that opens, click Create an ad hoc network.

4On the new window that opens, click Next.

5On the new window that opens, enter a name for your network and configure the security options. Enter a 5-digit security key and take note of it. You will need to enter exactly the same key on your cam-era. Click on Next when you are done. You can now move on to WFT Setup.

EOS Utility Setup

1Launch EOS Utility. Click the Preferences button at the lower right corner of the window.

1Turn on your camera with the WFT attached. Navigate to the first Tool menu and select [WFT Settings].

6Select the name of the wireless network you created during the computer setup. Select [OK].

7Select [Key index 1].Select [OK].

8Under Key Format select [Enter 5 ASCII characters]. Select [OK].

9Enter the same 5-digit password/security key you entered when you created the network.Press the Menu button on the camera to select [OK].

10On the Network screen select [Manual Setting]. Select [OK].

11On the IP address set. screen select [Manual Setting]. Select [OK].

12Enter an IP address for the WFT unit. The first six digits should be “192.168.” Either one of the last two must be different from the ones you assigned to the computer. Select [OK].

13On the Gateway screen leave the gateway set to [Disable]. Select [OK}.

When you have finished using EOS Utility mode, return to the WFT settings menu to select [Dis-connect.]

How to Disconnect

To reconnect, return to the WFT settings menu to select the mode and WFT account you previ-ously set-up.
