Hoe CASTeLLI rACekLedIj revoLuTIoneerde.

Bij Castelli gaan we er van uit dat het altijd Beter kan. het is onze motivatie en doel om raCe kledij steeds weer opnieuw te verBeteren.

de eerste keer dat we race kledij revolutionair verbeterden was in 1978, toen maurizio Castelli een lycra short op de markt bracht. het model werd de ‘aero short’ genoemd en was enkel in het zwart en in één maat beschikbaar. de profs uit die tijd gingen de short zelfs kopen omdat ze zo’n voordeel opleverde in de wedstrijd.

in 1981 stelde Castelli het eerste ‘aero jersey’ voor. het was een zeer revolutionaire trui aangezien het gebruik maakte van zeer rekbare nylon. het leverde een schitterende fit op, die met de destijds standaard gebruikte wol onmogelijk was.

in 2006 kwam zipp met hun bekende ‘404’ wielen. deze bevatten golfbalholtes die hen een voordeel van 4 watt opleveren. op deze techniek pikten we bij Castelli in en experimenteren sindsdien non-stop met aerodynamica aan de hand van verschillende materialen en de manier waarop lucht hierop inspeelt.

na ettelijke prototypes kwamen we in 2007 met het eerste resultaat in de vorm van een jersey. de resultaten waren ongeloofelijk... een winst van 18 watt bij 40 km/u. er waren evenwel nog neveneffecten... zo was de luchtdoorlaatbaarheid nog niet goed genoeg en was de stof op de rug te rekbaar om de achterzakken mooi op te houden. ook was de stof te warm en kon er niet op geprint worden.

Bij het aero race 5.0 jersey herbekeken we elk detail, vooraleer we de resultaten testten in de windtunnel en vervolgens in de giro en de tour van 2013. met een winst van 20 watt bleek het de grootste winst op te leveren van alle producten die we ooit maakten, en dit in het lichtste jersey dat we ooit maakten.

The Lazer Wasp helmet is currently the fastest* helmet in the world. The helmet excels in aerodynamic performance, while the ventilation is adjustable to the weather conditions and the rider’s needs. Everything about the helmet is shaped around the rider’s position during a time trial to fi nd an optimal fi t between the helmet and the rider’s back.

The aerodynamic performance of the helmet is the result of extensive wind tunnels research, scientifi c insight in aerodynamics and the use of mathematical models that allowed Lazer to compute and optimize the shape of the helmet in a virtual environment.

The frontal area of the helmet was kept to a minimum to reduce aerodynamic drag, and the helmet slims down towards the end to better guide the airfl ow.

The visor in front of the helmet is an integral part of the helmet and it can be moved to the front such that air can fl ow in the helmet when needed. This creates an airfl ow where cold air comes in troug the front vents and hot air exits the helmet from 2 vents in de tail.

To Top it of, a trip wire was introduced to induce small vortices at the rear of the helmet. On a micro-level, these vortices create additional drag; but on a macro level they reduce the overall drag.

On the inside of the helmet a derivative of the Lazer Autofi t system is used to provide the rider with the best possible comfort and adjustability.

MAGNETO

Magneto is a revolutionary sunglass/helmet interface that o� ers the user improved comfort and superior � t. Recognizing that traditional sunglass temples cause trouble for some wearers both in terms of � t, contact with the helmet’s retention system and added pressure to the side of the head at the contact points, Lazer has eliminated these temple pieces and replaced them with a clever magnetic attachment system. The helmet strap features two clips with a small piece of rubber-coated metal at the center, this allows for an attachment with magnets that are imbedded in two short tabs that connect to the sunglass lens.

The result is a secure � tment of the lens on the face but with the ability for adjustment both up and down and in and out.
