Dear Family,

Your child has just finished a group of stories about God’s never-ending love for creation, which ended with the story of Noah and his family being saved in the ark. During the next six weeks, we will discover how God grows his family again: starting with the tower of Babel, followed by stories of God’s faithfulness to Abraham and Sarah, and ending with God blessing Jacob with a family and flocks.

We trust you’ve become familiar with the Show and Share papers your child brings home. They are wonder-ful tools to reinforce at home the things your child has learned in our group. Do ask your child to share it with you. These papers provide stories and activities for the family to enjoy together.

You’ll also see that the Memory Challenge text that we are learning is listed at the bottom of page on each Show and Share paper. It would be great for your whole family to learn the text with your child. Doing so en-ables your family to focus together on the importance of God’s Word. The text for this unit is a blessing. Your family will enjoy giving this blessing to each other as the day begins and also at night, just before bedtime.

Please pray with me that the Holy Spirit will use Dwell materials—along with your leading and mine—to lead your child and classmates into a life of vibrant faith!

Joey and His DogJoey had wanted a puppy for a long, long time. When his grandpa gave him one for his birthday, Joey jumped for joy. “Thanks, Grandpa!” Joey said as he hugged the wiggly pup. “I think I’ll call him Max.”

Max and Joey were best friends right from the start. All summer long Max was right at Joey’s heels when he played ball with his friends. He tagged along when Joey brought the newspaper to the neighbor. He even shared Joey’s peanut butter cookies. “You spoil that dog,” Joey’s mother said with a smile.

Every afternoon when Joey’s dad came home, Joey and Max ran to meet him. And every night when his mom got home from working at the hospital, Max went crazy because he knew she was the person who made those great cookies! Dad called Max “Joey’s little shadow.” He’d say, “Everywhere that Joey goes, the dog is sure to go!”

When it was time for Max to go back to school, Joey won-dered what Max would do all day. Joey was especially con-cerned on the first day when he got on the school bus. He looked out the window and

there was Max—running as fast as he could right next to the bus!

That happened the first day—and every day after that too! Each morning Max would run alongside the bus to the end of Joey’s block. All day Max waited at the door for Joey, and every night when Max heard the bus coming, he’d run to meet it and follow it back home.

One day Joey’s church school teacher asked, “Can anyone

tell me what we mean when we say that God is faithful?”

Joey was the first to answer. “God is sort of like Max. Max loves me, and Max is always, always with me—he even sleeps at the end of my bed! God loves me and God is al-ways with me too.”

Joey’s friends smiled. His teacher nodded, and said, “Faithful Max! He’s taught us all a lesson about God!”
