    ANECKLACE of innovativedesign and worked in 18ctgold attracted a lot ofinterest at Brightwellsrecent sale of silver and

    jewellery.Created by Bjorn Weckstrom in the

    1970s, the rectangular plaque was clawset with a single square cutaquamarine and suspended from a flattextured link chain by the Finnishmaker Lapponia. It sold for 2,400.

    An earlier collarette weighing about42 gms made 1,050 and a garnet fringenecklace set in 9ct gold sold for 950.

    A coloured glass Rene Laliquependant carrying the usual etchedsignature achieved 900 while aVictorian seed pearl necklace in theform of ivy leaves and with adetachable pendant or brooch went for620.

    Predictably, diamond jewelleryachieved some of the highest prices.An Art Deco diamond cluster ring, itscollet set step-cut stone within adouble frame of brilliant cut stonesreached 2,100 and another, also in ArtDeco style, its claw set old cut stoneweighing about 1.25 cts and set inplatinum, made 2,300. A day and nighteternity ring with diamonds, sapphiresand rubies made 520 and a diamondsingle stone ring, about 1ct, set in 18ctgold, sold for 720.

    A selection of stylish earrings was

    led by a Belle Epoque style pair ofamethyst and diamond ear pendantsset in white gold acheived 750. and apair of clips in 18ct white gold sold for400. Among novelty jewellery was a

    pair of four vices cuff links with ovalenamelled plaques in 18ct white andyellow gold. They made 580. A GeorgeV 9ct gold cigarette case, 92gms, soldfor 750 and a silver chatelaine, datingfrom 1887, made 500.

    Because of their gold and silvercases, watches of all kinds are enjoyingnew popularity. A decorative Vertexwomans cocktail watch with brilliantcut diamonds and set in 18ct white goldsold for 450 and an Omega SeamasterDe Ville manual wristwatch made 190.

    Rolex watches continue to attractand an Oyster Perpetual Datejustmans wristwatch in a 14ct case andwith a 14 ct link bracelet made1,900..A 1920s Rolex Prima with asilvered dial sold for 1,550.

    Almost every item in the silversection of the auction found a buyerbecause of the current high price ofthe metal. Among more decorativepieces, valued for collectable or

    aesthetic appeal rather than weight,was a silver lidded ceramic scentbottle. Made in Birmingham in 1907, itreached 150 and a set of six Chinesesilver bottle tickets with dragon

    surmounts achieved 640. A pair of owlpepperettes, London, 1958, sold for350; a folding photograph frame,London, 1911, made 330; a silver andivory oval box, Sheffield, 1907, made byJ. Round (920); an impressive biscuitbox with an 1879 inscription to thehead of Monmouth school, Mappin &Webb, 37oz, (1,180) and a trinket boxin the form of a St Moritz curlingstone, Birmingham, 1907 (180).

    Among larger pieces, a fine Londonmade monteith in rococo-style datingfrom 1907 and weighing 38 oz. sold for710, while a pair of 1815 circulardecanter coasters achieved 880. Asilver salver made in 1800 andweighing 20 oz reached 350; a 1901oval comport on a pedestal base (310);a pair of 1906 Sheffield pillarcandlesticks in Corinthian style ( 580)and a set of four pillar candlesticksmade in Sheffield between 1892 and1893 sold for 1,180.
