CIELO AZUL – SCHOOL IN CAMBUGANAIMS OF THE PROJECTThe project wants to give the children from the 4th until the 7th class the basic knowledge of English and other subjects/abilities. One of the aims is to make the change to the secondary school easier for the children, ad-ditional, to realize additional activities with them (above all during the afternoons) and promote a creative mindset in them.

VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTSThe volunteer has to be self-confident, open-minded, spontaneous, adap-table and creative. Also it is important to be patient and motivated. It is a big advantage to have experience in working with children yet and to have a good knowledge of Spanish. If not, you will learn it quickly in speaking with the family, pupils and the other teachers. The volunteer has to go in contact with the people in the community, but the people are very friendly and interested in the volunteers. It is very good if he or she likes the nature and spending time outside, but if not, he/she will learn to love it, because Cambugán is such a beautiful piece of earth. It’s an advantage if the volunteer is an independent person because it can be a long week alone in a community without internet and friends.

PROJECT´S ACTIVITIESThe school in Cambugán has about 45 students divided into seven classes and two teachers. We help in the school and the volunteers teach English, Computation, Sports and Arts. We also work in the afternoon with diffe-rent workshops depending of the skills of the volunteer. Every Friday there are meetings with all volunteers and the coordination team of CIELO AZUL for interchanging, planning and resolving pro-blems.

VOLUNTEER’S TASKSThe volunteers work from Monday to Friday every morning between 7:30 am - 1pm. Sometimes there are also workshops during the afternoon. In Cambugan they will teach English , Computation, Sports and Arts. They have a school garden and once a wekk they work there with the students. Most of the families are living froma africulture and they expect you to help in this task.

LOCATIONThe school in the rural community Cambugán is located about 1 hour from Otavalo with the car, at approximately

3000m oversea.

COMMUNITY CONTEXTIn Cambugán, the majority of the people are indigenous and they speak their traditional language Kichwa and are

influenced by the Kichwa-culture.The school and the community are connected very well

and the volunteer will live directly in the community and get a part of it. Cambugán is a very friendly com-

munity with open-minded citizens. The family will share everything they have with the volunteer and the volunteer

can enter in a simple but beautiful life. The food is ba-sic with corn, many potatoes, soups and various forms of beans. The volunteer will see how life works out under di-

fferent conditions in a very special way.
