“The aroma fills your head with nuances of stone fruits and exotic spices The flavors kick in with plenty of red fruits, cinnamon, nuts, cherries and pencil lead. Ready to drink now and certainly can hold up in your cellars for another 5 years. Perfect with lamb kebabs, veal medallions in a light cream sauce with mushrooms, and with roast chicken dishes.”

Composition: 50% Merlot 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol content: 14%.

The Douro region extends along the Douro river and its tributaries, protected from the Atlantic influence by Marao, Alvao and Montemuro hills, and influenced by a unique microclimate of dry hot summers and severe winters. Produced by native Touriga Nacional (30%), Touriga Franca

(30%), and Tinta Roriz (40%) grapes Sttravaganza reveals a deep purple-red colour and intense ripe fruit flavours with vanilla overtones. It’s a bold yet elegant wine that well expresses the unique

characteristics of great Douro wines.

On Line ReviewsInitially tasted right after opening. Almost dumped it out. No flavor, tasted really bad. But I just wanted one glass so I stuck with it. I’m glad I did! After about 30 minutes, it was a completely

different wine. Almost tastes new worldly. Nose of a cab, but tastes slightly jammy. Earthy, with toast and leather. Lots of floral notes. Almost like a cab franc/Syrah 50/50. An hour later it was superb.

Would buy again, especially at the price point.

Wine Makers NotesOverhill Red Silk Shiraz displays complex fruit and sexy, silky tannins. Perhaps it’s the old age and low yields of the vines, or maybe the special care and attention fruit receives in the winery. The essence of McLaren Vale lives in our wine-complex fruit and sexy, silky tannins. This is who Oliverhill is and they’re

not about to change! Enjoy!

Reviews“Deep purple black in color, the 2011 Red Silk Shiraz is scented of macerated black plums, crushed

blackberries and black currants with underlying black pepper and Indian spice hints. Medium to full-bodied with plenty of youthful black berry and pepper flavors on offer in the mouth, it has a

solid backbone of medium to firm grainy tannins and refreshing acidity, finishing with good length. Approachable now, it should remain good to 2016.” - 90 points Robert Parker

$20 Red WineOn-Line ReviewLe Volte dell’Ornellaia 2011 faithfully reflects the distinctive characteristics of its vintage. This wine is rich and full-bodied, with all of its components in perfect balance. Intense in both color and bouquet, it releases profound notes of dark berryfruit, sweet violets, and spice. The palate offers a broad vein of finely-woven, glossy tannins, creating a velvety mouthfeel . Impressions of fruit and spice lace the progression, which proceeds leisurely to an energy-laden finish enlivened by a tangy acidity

Wine maker notesAfter a significantly delayed 2010 vintage, 2011 was marked by very hot, dry weather, which brought on an earlier than average harvest . A rainy winter was followed by a warmer than normal spring, bringing forward the start of the vine growth cycle by a full 10 days. Budbreak was particularly rapid and even, as experience shows, is a very hopeful sign of a great vintage. Growth was then slowed by cooler conditions in June and July, but the desired rain arrived on time after flowering and after ‘veraison’, favouring optimal cluster development. A surge of heat in late August further encouraged the ripening process, bringing the start of harvest to the last week in August. September’s weather was sunny and rainless, picture-perfect conditions that yielded concentrated grapes with an ideal balance between ripe tannins, crisp acidities, and rich, ripe aromas.

Recipes From the ValleyZucchini Parmesan

Recipe from Renee V. Bruch, Graphic Designerof the Wine of the Month publication.

• 4-6 medium size zucchini’s• 1 lb. ground meat (I use elk, but beef would work as well)

• 1/2-1 cup of finally chopped onion• 2-3 cups Italian bread crumbs

• 1 Tbs. Italian herbs• 1 Tbs. grated parmesan cheese

•1 tsp each: garlic salt, pepper, dried basil and oregano• 2 eggs• Olive oil

• 3 Tbs. fresh parsley • 3 Tbs. fresh basil

• 4 garlic cloves, minced• Mozzeralla cheese

• 1 jar of tomato sauce

Start out by browning the ground meat with the onions in a frying pan. I use some italian seasonings as well, but this is a rich in flavor dish, so don’t over do it.

While that is cooking, slice the zucchini length wise, removing the skin from the end piece so the bread crumbs will stick to it. Combine the bread crumbs with

the next 3 ingredients next on the list in a bowl. In a separate bowl, scramble the eggs with a pinch of water. Preheat a frying pan with some olive oil in it. Dip the zucchini slices in the egg, followed by the bread crumbs until evenly coat and

lightly fry them in the frying pan.

Chop the fresh parsley, basil and combine them with the garlic and set the mixture aside. Prepare a 9” x 13” (3 Qt.) baking pan with a layer of sauce to cover the pan on the bottom. Line it with a layer of fried zucchini. Cover the

zucchini with 1/2 of the browned and drained meat. Cover with 1/2 of the fresh basil, parsley and garlic mixture. Add another layer of zucchini, meat and the

rest of the fresh herb mixture. Cover with the rest of the sauce and place in the over at 375o for 1/2 hour. Remove and cover with mozzarella cheese and some additional fresh Parmesan cheese and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Allow

to settle for 10 minutes and serve.

Goes great with pasta and garlic bread!
