• My writing goal is to reread to help
answer comprehension questions.
I was at a Literacy training day last week and the main content was about the importance of oral language. Children
need to be given the opportunity to have conversaons about many topics and have books read to them. It extends
their general knowledge and gives them ideas for wring. Please take me to spend with your children hearing them
read and sharing informaon with them from nonficon material.
Grade 5/6 Camp
On Monday 16th
May all grade 5/6 students will be travelling to camp for the week. This is a high adventure camp and
reports from other schools indicate that it is lots of fun. Fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us! As I will be on
camp next week there will be no report from me in next week’s newsle+er.
Tables
It is essenal that all our students know their 1 – 12 mes tables by the end of Grade 4. Mulplicaon and division
require an understanding of tables and some students are being held back as they do not know their tables. I found it
useful for my girls to choose a couple of tables every couple of days, put them on the fridge and pracse them o2en.
Then move on to another couple but keep revising the ones done. In class students are pracsing them daily and it is
really helpful to work on them at home as well.
NAPLAN
Well done to all our Grade 3 & 5 students who parcipated in NAPLAN last week. The results usually don’t arrive unl
later in the year and will then be sent home to parents. It is just one form of tesng and the results can vary from
teacher judgements established a2er compleng many forms of assessment.
Pupil Free Day
The school will be closed Monday 30th May for report wring.
Thanks,
Deb
National Walk Safely to School Day
This Friday 20th May is National Walk Safely to School Day, an Australian Government Initiative.
Students are encouraged to participate in an active method of getting to school. On the day
students can meet at the rotunda behind the Yea Pool and walk to school from there. There will be
staff members there to ensure that your child gets to school safely and available parents are
encouraged to join in the fun and walk too. The group will be leaving the rotunda at 8.30am sharp,
everyone is welcome to participate.
The aim of National Walk Safely to School Day is help promote children’s health and the
environmental benefits of leaving your car at home. If you catch the bus, why not walk or ride to
your bus stop. This day also aims to raise awareness of safe pedestrian behaviour. Parents are
encouraged to take this opportunity to talk to their child/ren about the importance of safety when
crossing roads and using shared pathways on their way to school. For more information and ideas
visit www.walk.com.au
See you out there!

for our school library.
Congratulations to the following students who guessed the teachers favourite
monster book correctly, William Granter, Adam Chuah, Olivia Johnson, Zoee
Gregory, Ben Keating and Maddy Granter.

BPay Request
Bpay is a great, secure and hassle free
way to make payments and the school
encourages families to use this facility. We
do however request that persons making
a Bpay deposit into the school account
advise the school what this money is for
and/or how to allocate. Please email
instrucons, date and receipt number to
[email protected]. This saves
any confusion and ensures no monies go
astray as we have had issues with the
departmental up load of Bpayments over
the last quarter. Many thanks for your
assistance. Fiona, Business Manager
