The following pages list the key topics of the A2 course and when you can expect each to be covered. Core 3 topics are labelled C3. Core 4 topics are labelled C4. Mechanics 1 topics are labelled M. AS Mathematics – How is it examined? Students will sit three examinations at the end of year 13. Students can use a calculator for all papers. The Core 3 module has a piece of coursework which is worth 20% of the grade for this module. Year 13 Autumn Term Students will study the following topics throughout the Autumn term: (1) Proof (C3) (1) Motion (M) (2) Natural Logs and Exponentials (C3) (2) Modelling and constant acceleration (M) (3) Functions (C3) (3) Forces and Newton’s laws of motion (M) (4) Techniques for Differentiation (C3) (4) Applying Newton’s 2 nd law (M) (5) Techniques for Integration (C3) (5) Vectors (M) Revision of chapters so far (M) Revision and C3 mock Revision and M1 test C4 module: (7) Algebra (C4) (6) Projectiles (M) Assessment Students will sit an end of term test before Christmas. This will consist of a full past exam paper for Core 3 and a set of past exam paper questions on the relevant topics for Mechanics 1.
