This term you will exploring the Street Art and Graffiti. Inspired by the current
exhibition of art designed routemaster buses in Croydon, you will design your
own bus to go on display in the school. Using street at techniques, you will
design and create your own stencil to decorate your bus in addition to explor-
ing a range of other street art skills and ideas. You will also learn the difference
between illegal graffiti and legal street art.

Research the poet William Blake and create a poster which covers the following things:
1. Information about his life 2. Information about his poems (what did they cover etc.) 3.
Add one poem to your poster and note down why you like it.

Create your own greetings card. It could be for a birthday, anniversary, or whatever you
like. Inside the card, create a short poem to celebrate/commiserate the occasion.

Write a poem about something to do with school. It could be about your lessons,
homework, break-time, or something of your choice. You must have at least two stan-
zas (verses) in your work.

Find a song which you think sounds ‘poetic’ when you list to the lyrics. Print off the
poem and annotate it the song to explain what certain words/images suggest to you
when you listen to it.

Research how to write a sonnet and try to create your own, making sure to use the
correct number of syllables and the correct rhyme scheme.
Underneath your sonnet you should explain what the correct structure to use is.

Write a formal letter to your favourite poet. In your letter you should explain what you
like about their poems and explain why you enjoy one poem more than any other.

Read a copy of Carol Anne Duffy’s “Valentine”. After reading the piece, try to create
your own love poem which uses an unusual image to show how you feel about love.

Topic: Medieval Society Medieval life was nasty, brutish and short. People hoped to get to heaven as a
reward.

Mtel is a new company that is seeking ideas for a new board game
design that can be designed and manufactured to be sold to the
public later in the year.
Step 1 You are able to use the computer to research existing games.

Trees have to be cut down and converted into usable planks or boards. Get
pictures and describe how the trees are cut down made into logs and then sawn up into
boards or planks.

Find out how many acres of trees are being cut down in the Amazon Forest in an hour.

Because we are cutting down trees (felling) at an alarming rate, wooden
materials have been developed which are made from the waste products when the logs
are sawn up. Two of these products are called MDF and Chipboard.
Get pictures of these two materials and describe what they are made from and how they
are made.
