Instructions for downloading HCI-Residential (online version) Textbook 1. You must have Adobe Reader XI or newer before proceeding to the next step. CLICK HERE if you need to download Adobe Reader. If you already have Adobe Reader, proceed to next step. 2. CLICK HERE - A new web page will open within your internet browser. 3. Click the DOWNLOAD button to save the textbook to your computer. 4. You will enter your E-mail address to download this document. You will be asked to re-enter the E-mail address when you open the document after download. Please note that the E-mail address is case sensitive. For example: [email protected] = [email protected] [email protected] will NOT work. 5. A PIN number is then E-mailed to you – you will have to enter the PIN number in order to open the protected PDF. Check your SPAM folder if you do not see the email in your Inbox within a couple of minutes. 6. Once download is complete it is saved to your computer. Open the textbook from your Saved default location – check your computers Network Folder then Download Folder. 7. You may also VIEW the course textbook in the online viewer provided on the download site. *Internet connection required. 8. Your downloaded textbook will not expire. You will be permitted to view/reference this document during your open book, proctored test. Security settings prevent this textbook from being shared with someone other than the student. 9. The HCI-R classroom textbook is available for purchase (optional) for $99 + tax and shipping. How to Make Notes in your Digital Textbook If you open your book in your browser, you will not be able to make notes.

To make a note within the textbook file – find and click on the word bubble at the top of the window:

Click anywhere on the document, type your notes, then hit post. An icon will appear anyplace you make a note.

If you hover over the icon, the note will appear.

To find the list of notes you made, click on the Comment option on the right side. This will show all the comments you made in order of how they appear in the book.

Click on any comment to immediately be taken to the page where you placed the note. Click and drag on the icon within the document to move the comment around.

Don’t forget to save your book in an easy to access location. Use ‘SAVE AS’ to save your book on a flash drive so you can access the book and notes on other computers.

Common Errors

This error means you did not enter in your email address to match the Protected PDF. Refer to Step 4 on the Download Instructions.

When the words appeared jumbled – this means you are not in Adobe the required program to open your textbook. Notice the highlighted area in the upper left-hand corner. This program is Previewer – Apple’s version on Adobe. Refer to Step 1 on the Download Instructions to download Adobe for Free.
