LEADING BY EXAMPLE

I have thoroughly enjoyed attending Stephenson College and

would recommend the experience to anyone. I wasn’t a great

fan of school and never dreamt of ever going back.

As a consequence, I left early to pursue a career in

construction. It’s taken me many years to realise that with

my knowledge of the industry I could better myself.

Studying for my HNC and the HND conversion in Building

Studies has been very demanding but at the same time

rewarding.

I currently work for a small construction company, my recent

efforts have been recognised and I will soon be taking a

more managerial role in the company.

I have definitely caught the learning bug and wish to carry

on my studying in the near future, possibly through work

based qualifications.

My experience as a Business Administration Apprentice with

Stephenson College and Nottingham City Council was an

extremely enjoyable and successful one.

The idea of improving my knowledge and skills, work

experience and earning money at the same time is what

first attracted me to apply for the apprenticeship. During

my time at Stephenson College I found the staff very helpful

and supportive, which ultimately helped me finish my NVQ

Level 2 in just over 6 months. Unfortunately at the end of my

apprenticeship I did not manage to secure a permanent

position within the City Council due to the current economic

climate, but I have no doubt that I would not have got my

current job if I had not completed my apprenticeship with

Stephenson College.

Jonathan Mason

Determination and a will to achieve

Not having had much practical work experience, when the

NVQ Administration Apprenticeship became available to me

I felt that this would be a good way for me to gain both

valuable work experience and a recognised qualification. I

was well supported in both my College work and work

placement by the staff at Stephenson College, not only with

the practical but also my well-being, this enabled me to

help others on the NVQ

with me at my work

placement. I would

recommend the

apprenticeship scheme

to anyone, regardless

of experience; all you

need is motivation and

a will to achieve.
