By Walter Ruehlig, Room 18 has added a new dimension to its' already dynamic positioning as the College and Career Transition Center. A Career Center modeled along the lines of Amer-icas' Job Center (formerly called the One Stop Career Cen-ter) is now open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, or by appointment by calling Walter Ruehlig, PAEC's Workability Coordinator, at (925) 473-4395. Check job postings or browse through our career and community agency resource guides. Or you can seek more intensive one-on-one consultation with Walter on building a new resume or critiquing your old one. You can also ask for help on interviewing strategies or job search tips or learn more about vocational assess-ments, workshops and job-training resources available at America’s Job Center. We know how important and challenging getting the right job is. Obviously, when an employer typically spends only 10-30 seconds on a resume and 70% of an inter-viewer's decision is made within the first minute of meeting, separating yourself from the crowd is essential. Hospice This Continuing Education class is required by many Hospice agencies in order to work with the dying in home, hospitals and in skilled nursing facilities. This course will focus on the role of the CNA in providing care to the Hospice patient and family and in being apart of the inter-disciplinary team. Topics include: fear surrounding death, history of health care in dying, goals in Hospice, end of life decisions, caregiver challenges, cultural influences, and emotional issues.
Dementia / Alzheimer This Continuing Education class emphasizes the physical, psychological and sociological aspects of dementia and its impact on individuals, families and caregivers. Topics include communication, dealing with difficult behavior, and the best environment structure to meet the needs of an individ-ual with dementia.

Future Build Are you interested in working in the construction industry and learning Green Trade Skills? If you answered YES, then this program is for YOU! Future Build utilizes PACT (Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training) designed by the AFL-CIO (Multi-Craft, Core Curriculum) and the Home Builders Institute. Successful graduates will show proficiency in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting & finishing, brick masonry, facilities maintenance, landscaping, weatherization, green building and solar.

ServSafe Serving safe food is a must! Plus, to work in any eatery, you must be certified. To become certi-fied, take this comprehensive eight-hour course (including test) cover ing sanitation and safe-food handling practices. Successfully completing this course meets AB 1978 requirements for adults interested in or working in the food service industry. Learn from a Contra Costa County environmental health specialist. Principles of Accounting ► This course introduces the student to the accounting system as it applies to a sole proprietorship and retail business. The course will include the preparing of financial documents, computing of payroll, and basic accounting principles. High School Diploma & Graduation Requirements PAEC’s high school diploma course offers a competency based program. An adult will earn a diplo-ma upon completion of a minimum of 175 credits (excluding physical education) to graduate. Students are required to earn at least 10 credits at the Pittsburg Adult Education Center. Credits from previous schools are counted toward graduation requirements. An Academic Advisor will analyze your transcripts and recommend courses that meet graduation requirement.

ADMISSION: Adults: Classes are open to all adults (18 years old and older) who are presently not attending high school and are able to benefit from instruction. High School Students: High school seniors may concurrently enroll in certain classes subject to space availability. State regulations prohibit enrollment in some classes. A Concurrent Enrollment Request/Agreement must be completed and on file for each quarter. To enroll, high school students must first see their high school counselor. REGISTRATION: Registration for CTE and Life Long Learners takes place through the Adult Education Main Office. This can be done in person, by mail or fax. ABE & High School Diploma, GED and Independent Study students must attend ASE Orientation and registration on Thursday (8:45am or 5:45pm) or Fri-day (8:45am) in Room 1. ESL & Citizenship students register in Room 1 on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (9:00am--12:00pm or 5:45-8:15pm). Online ESL Distance Learners must also pay a $30 refundable deposit for DVDs and a $10 book deposit. Fees for all other courses vary and are listed in the brochure along with the class infor-mation. Other students purchase their books from the PAEC office. RESTRICTED ENTRY ►: Students can register for these classes up through the first two weeks of the quarter.
