3drupa 2016

Your guide to hard-working days, and hard-playing nights

A visit to drupa can alter the course of a business – seeing new technology, making the right connections: these things can have a profound impact on your company’s trajectory, and your own career.

It doesn’t happen for everyone. And it doesn’t happen every time. But approach drupa in the right way, and it’s much more likely to happen. That’s why we’ve put together this guide.

It’s designed to help you make the most of your days on the Messe floor – seeking out the kinds of innovation that matter to you, and engaging effectively with the people behind them.

But it’s also designed to help you unwind, when that’s what your mind and body need. Düsseldorf is a vibrant city, and a resource in itself. Being inspired by the cameras obscura on display at the film museum, or networking over a plate of Michelin-starred sushi – they’re all important parts of the drupa experience too.

We hope you find the guide useful. While you’re exploring the show, be sure to come see us at Hall 8b – we’d love to say hello.

The Messe is drupa’s longstanding home. And it’s huge. With 19 halls containing more than 262,000 square meters of exhibition space – not to mention another 43,000 square meters out under the Düsseldorf sky – navigating the Messe can be a daunting prospect.

Especially when all that space is positively heaving with stands, exhibitors, and fellow visitors. (This year’s drupa is set to host some 315,000 experts from more than 130 countries.)

Getting to the MesseDüsseldorf’s public transport network – The Rheinbahn – is excellent and extensive. When you’re booking accommodation, be sure to look up your nearest stop; there’s a good chance it’ll only be a short stroll away.

Remember your ticket to drupa 2016 also entitles you – with some limitations – to free travel on the day of your visit. (You can find more details here.)

The voice of experience “ Work out what you need to see, what you’d like to see, and then plan a route. drupa is a massive site and you’ll save time – and your legs!”

Every drupa has its ‘highlight’ themes. This year is all about the evolution of the print and media industry – shining a spotlight on everything from multichannel demands, to sustainability concerns.

PrintPrinting technology is, of course, drupa’s whirring, bleeping heart. (Did you know the name ‘drupa’ is a portmanteau of ‘druck and papier’, or ‘print and paper’?)

It’s also as important today as it was at the very first drupa exhibition, when the ‘Platen Press’ thrilled the people of 1951 with its ability to print 5,000 sheets an hour.

Packaging ProductionRight now, packaging is a wellspring of innovation – with smart packaging solutions constantly finding, and inspiring, new applications. (Like object hyperlinking and sensory marketing.)

In the light of this, drupa 2016’s set aside more than 25,000m2 to showcase the cutting edge in packaging production.

MultichannelWe’re living in a digital age – and a multichannel world.

drupa 2016’s third theme covers the technology needed to get customized content to the people who need it, through the various devices and tools they use.

Green PrintingAs a wise frog once said, it’s not easy being green. But making the effort is increasingly smart.

With Corporate Social Responsibility shooting up the agendas of many brands – and significant cost savings possible through the more sustainable use of resources – green printing is a worthy star of this drupa show.

3D PrintingThe global market volume in 3D printing is estimated at over $2billion. And it’s still in its infancy.

With applications ranging from customer-designed products to human organ printing, drupa 2016 is your chance to get ready for what’s coming – and be a part of it.

Functional PrintingWorking with ceramics and glass – or printed electronics? drupa 2016’s final highlight theme gathers together the very latest developments in industrial and functional printing.

1 http://www.forbes.com/sites/louiscolumbus/2015/03/31/2015-roundup-of-3d- printing-market-forecasts-and-estimates/#e0d93e21dc6775deedad1dc6

Did you know? It’s expected 3D printing will become 50% cheaper and up to 400% faster in the next five years.1

Time flies when you’re working hard. Here are our tips for a really productive drupa 2016.

Plan, plan and plan some more There’s so much to see, the only smart plan is to plan well. Use drupa’s search tool to identify key exhibitors and products in advance, then plot out your shortest possible route between them. Be sure to:

Stay flexible You never know what you’ll stumble across on your way to your next appointment, so build a little breathing room into your drupa schedule.

Don’t do it all right now drupa’s database of exhibitors and products is updated every 24 hours. So do some research early on, but be sure to save some time for a final, last minute sweep – who knows who or what will have been added to the show?

Make the most of your timePlan your trip to perfection

Page 13: Your drupa day and night guide 2016 - Xerox · 2016-04-13 · Time flies when you’re working hard. Here are our tips for a really productive drupa 2016. Plan, plan and plan some

13drupa 2016: drupa by day

Start engaging earlyIt’s now possible to make contact with drupa exhibitors before you even set foot in Düsseldorf. If there’s a specific question you’re hoping to get answered at the Messe, use drupa’s Matchmaker service to share it with exhibitors in advance.

An early answer could save you a lot of time on the show floor – and even provide you with first contact with a future business partner.

Get the app There’s an official app to help you master the show. Our advice? Use it. It gives you instant access to the interactive site and hall map, lets you ‘favorite’ the exhibitors and products you’re most interested in, and even keeps you up to date with event news.

If you’ve got an iPhone or iPad, download it here. If you’re on Android, this version’s for you.

The voice of experience “ Prepare yourself. You have to know where the vendors you want to visit are – download the drupa app to support navigation.”

drupa’s a great chance to meet smart, useful people. Here’s how to do just that, while showing just how smart and useful you are too.

Do your research Once you’ve found the exhibitors you’re interested in, dig deep. Research the job roles you’re most interested in talking to, and who’s holding them – so you know exactly who to seek out and impress.

Be a great listener Listening to what someone has to say, and providing a smart answer – or even just asking a smart question – is a way to show you’re genuinely worth knowing. It’s much more powerful than talking endlessly about yourself.

Don’t be a stranger Once you’ve made a contact, follow up with them in the next few days – this will help cement their memory of meeting you, and open up a simple line of communication for moving the relationship forwards.

Network like a proSuccessfully connect with the brightest sparks

The voice of experience “ Take a spare pair of shoes, keep plenty of water and food on your person; comfort is essential if you’re looking to be productive!”

High five

ThemYou

Meeting the right people is one thing. Getting them on board, on your terms, is quite another. Here’s how to negotiate with the best of them.

Prepare yourself The greatest negotiators understand the other side’s position almost as keenly as they understand their own. So, prepare well, scouring company websites, social media profiles, and drupa’s own database for useful insights.

Help them be a hero You want a great deal. But the human beings you’re negotiating with? They need a result to shout about too. Based on your research, look for ways of giving them a win they can be proud of – it’ll make it easier for them to accept your more demanding terms.

Be ready to walk It’s incredibly hard to negotiate if you’re talking to your only hope. Make sure you’ve a number of genuine alternative vendors in mind, so you can stick to your guns, and turn down an unsatisfactory deal.
