Safety Management System (SMS) involves the entire FS Group organization and sub-contractors in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, adequate protection of people and assets. The SMS is closely interconnected with the Quality Assurance System and obtained all the certifications to the international standards accreditation (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and OHSAS-Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series 18001).

Safety & Security services can rely on the excellent results achieved:

• the FS Group was the early developer of the innovative European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 2 that

has been applied to the Italian High-Speed railway lines;

• the ATC and ATP (Automatic Train Control/Protection) systems have been installed over the entire network and on board trains;

• the effectiveness of this approach has led to a continuous reduction of accidents within the FS Group infrastructure network, as classified by the International Union of Railways (UIC);

FS International has been awarded by EHSR (“Eastern High-Speed Rail Linking Three Airport” Consortium) as Operation & Maintenance Contractor of three railway systems: the 29 km Airport Rail Link between Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Bangkok city centre, the new 22 km Airport Link Extension to Don Mueang Airport and the new 220 km High-Speed line linking three main Thai airports.

The new high-speed line is part of a broader infrastructure investment plan, estimated at a total of $45 billion, launched by the Thai government to transform the country into a future regional hub. It is also a major component of the Eastern Economic Corridor, the ASEAN economic growth corridor.

EGYPTIAN NATIONAL RAILWAYSFollowing the cooperation agreement between the Arabic Republic of Egypt and the Italian Government, FS Italian Railways through FS International performed a Shadow Management project for ENR (Egyptian National Railways).The aim of the project was a renovation of the Egyptian Railways, therefore, a “restructuring program” was planned and developed together with the Italian Shadow Managers.

Support to the implementation of a new organization structure allowing to increase efficiency, safety and customer orientation;

FS Italian Railways, through FS International, worked as Auditor of the Executive Project for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the major railway line in the country, the “Ferrocarril Central” connecting the city of Paso de los Toros with Montevideo port (273km), for the Ministry of Transport and Public Works.

The training activities performed by FS International fell within the scope of a cooperation agreement signed between the Rail Operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) and FS Italian Railways, in order to promote and support the improvement of knowledge and skills in the railway sector, the research, the technologies, the infrastructure applications

as well as the human resources development of the Indonesian partner.FS International carried out two training sessions on Asset Management matters to about 50 managers of PT KAI, including classroom works at RFI Vocational School in Bologna and on-site visits to the most relevant plants of the FS Group.

TURKISH RAILWAYSIn the framework of the longstanding relationship between the FS Group and the Turkish Railways (TCDD), marked by the signing of several cooperation agreements along the years, FS International carried out a railway maintenance training towards TCDD’s personnel operating in the fields of railway track construction, maintenance and repair within the railway units.

VIETNAM NATIONAL RAILWAYSIn the context of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnam National Railways (VNR) and FS Italian Railways, followed by a similar agreement between the Italian Ministry of Transport and the Vietnamese counterpart, FS International conducted an economic and technical feasibility study for organizational and managerial development of VNR.

OMAN MINERAL LINEOman Rail appointed a Consortium coordinated by FS International for reviewing the conceptual design of infrastructure and systems of the Mineral Line.The project consisted in a 212 km railway line, potentially interoperable with the GCC Railway, aimed at linking minerals sources located in the south of the Sultanate to Al Duqm Port and allowing connectivity also with the several Oil&Gas logistics centers of the country.
