Meet the Governors: Penny Burnside

I am a relatively new foundation governor at Wilson’s Endowed School. After more than thirty years’ involvement in education in Devon, I recently moved back to my native Lancashire when my husband’s job brought us to Capernwray. As a churchwarden at St Cuthbert’s, I really value the partnership between the school and the church. I want to support and encourage the headteacher and staff as they continue to provide the best possible educational experience for all of the children. As a former headteacher of a rural primary, I have a particular interest in village schools – their unique personalities, their opportunities and challenges, and their very special contribution to their local communities. I hope that my experience as a teacher, headteacher, governor, school improvement partner, diocesan adviser and SIAMS inspector will help me to serve this school well.

Parents’ Top Tip

This week’s Bible story is: A Sad Day The story of the Fall, Genesis 3

Packed Lunches and School Lunches We are introducing a set of rules to help all the children have happy and enjoyable lunches. This involves a few changes to packed lunches. We have observed that the calmness is interrupted by children frequently getting up putting both rubbish and uneaten food in the bin. We have now asked the children to take home all their rubbish and uneaten food. A plastic box in their picnic bag might be helpful for the leaky rubbish. Follow this link on the school website to see the rules: https://wilsonsprimary.org.uk/information/news-information/school-lunches

Curriculum Information Please find attached information about what your child will be learning in different areas of the curriculum. Follow this link on the school website to see the leaflet: https://wilsonsprimary.org.uk/learning/curriculum/class-curriculum-newsletter

Parents’ Top Tip

This week’s Bible story is: Three Wise Men New Craft Club after February half term (every Tuesday from 25th February – 24th March) Mrs Briggs, Mrs Michelle Marshall and Katherine Rogers will be running the club on Tuesdays after school. The club will run from 3.30pm – 4.30pm and is open to Years 2- 6. There is a charge of £3 per child to cover costs. The club is limited to 30 pupils so please book your place with Sarah.

Staff News and our new Rainbow Room

Mrs Michelle Marshall has joined the staff team as our new learning mentor. She is transforming the library into the ‘Rainbow Room’. Treats for star of the week and a variety of learning interventions will all take place in this new space. To avoid confusion over two Mrs Marshalls, Michelle will be called ‘Mrs M’. Mrs Swallow has decided to finish in her role in Rowans class and work nearer to her home. Mrs Daynes, who has already taught the class, has taken on the role. Mrs Daynes’ three afternoon sessions in Willows will now be taught by our governor and experienced teacher, Mrs Susan Smith.

Prayer Plea

A Prayer for the New Year from the Church of England Eternal Lord God, we give you thanks for bringing us through the changes of time to the beginning of another year. Forgive us the wrong we have done in the year that has past, and help us to spend the rest of our days to your honour and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
