Zoo Summer Camp Full Day Camp Options (ages 5-12) Full day camp hours are 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. (Extended Care Options Available) JUNE 1-5 Party Animals! (Session 1) Why do some animals hang out with their friends? Being social has advantages! Discover the role of social behavior in finding food, keeping safe, and raising a family. Explore the zoo while experiencing the joys of summer—including boating, hiking, and racing. On Friday, we’ll throw a water party! JUNE 8-12 RoboCamp (Session 2) From their nose to their toes, animal features can be pretty wild! How does a chameleon change colors? How does a fly walk on the ceiling? Learn how animals use their unique adaptations to survive, and learn about the form and function of real animals through their biomechanical counterparts – ROBOTS! (This session focuses on The Robot Zoo Traveling Exhibit.) JUNE 15-19 Animal Play (Session 3) FUN is important in the growth of young animals. Learn how animals play to learn and learn to play. Observe how the Zoo trains animals and gain hands-on animal care experience. Older campers have the opportunity to train one of the Zoo’s animals. JUNE 22-26 Expedition: Zoo (Session 4) Explore the living world in an exciting laboratory…the Zoo! Trap wild animals, fool butterflies, and explore lakes. Be an animal detective while stalking peacocks and primates! On Friday, campers present their findings & field journals. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. JUNE 29-JULY 3 Adventure Amazonia (Session 5) Let’s go on a rainforest adventure! Discover the relationships between plants, animals, and the environment. Compare our home to the home of toucans and jaguars while uncovering the connection between North and South America. Participate in conservation activities to protect the Amazon and get an insider’s look at AMAZONIA! JULY 6-10 Mission Green Possible (Session 6) Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to explore real and simulated animal habitats to learn what makes a habitat a home for animals like tigers and tapirs. Delve into natural habitats around the Zoo by trapping and spying on native species. Transform your backyard into a great habitat by building ladybug houses, feeders, and growing “animal friendly” plants. JULY 13-17 Zoo Master (Session 7) Zoo Master is the ultimate insider’s look at how a zoo functions. Create a “model zoo” by selecting which animals to display, designing new exhibits, creating a menu, and much more. Join us Friday afternoon to tour the zoo campers have created. JULY 20-24 ZooTastic Journey (Session 8) Join us on a journey through time and the fascinating world of zoos, animals, plants, and people. Explore the differences between myth and reality in a place where the truth can be much stranger than fiction. But be warned— there are dragons! Zoo Scientists (Session A)Explore the living world in the most exciting laboratory of all... the Zoo! Learn about animals’ friendships and families by stalking peacocks and eavesdropping on bats! Discover the secret life of plants under ground and watch them grow!

JUNE 8-12

Zoo Mission(Session B)Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to explore habitats and learn what you can do to preserve them. Take action to save species and transform your backyard into a great habitat!

JUNE 15-19

Zoo Party (Session C)Why do some animals hang out with their friends? Are animal families like human families? Learn how living in a group helps animals find food, keep safe, and raise a family. Discover the social lives of animals and draw your family tree. Experience the joys of summer including hiking and racing. We’ll even throw a water party on Friday!

JUNE 29—JULY 3

Zoo Play (Session D)Taking care of animals is serious business. Find out what it takes to care for a variety of animals. Get hands on experience with animal care. Make special treats for zoo animals.

JULY 6-10

Zoo Master (Session E)Do everything from caring for animals to designing new exhibits. Zoo Master is the ultimate insider’s look at how a zoo works. Create a “model zoo,” lend a hand landscaping, and much more.

JULY 20-24

Zoo Robo (Session F)From their nose to their toes, animal features can be pretty wild! How does a chameleon change colors? How does a fly walk on the ceiling? Answer these questions, explore what makes animals unique, and learn all about real animals through their special friends – ROBOTS! (This session focuses on The Robot Zoo Traveling Exhibit.)

What is Zoo Summer Camp like?Zoo Summer Camp is for those who enjoy learning about nature in a fun and safe environment. Activities vary, but include games, crafts, animal presentations, and up close animal encounters. Campers will enjoy animal-themed races, boating, scavenger hunts, hiking, animal care, an insider’s view of the Zoo, and much more. Older campers can prepare photo diaries of their experiences, use modern techniques to study animals, or learn to train animals like Zoo professionals.

Meal Plans for lunch are available for full-day campers from The Rainforest Grill and Extended Care is available for full-day campers as well (see website for details.) Class sizes are designed to ensure one counselor for every 8 – 10 campers.
