Narratives

Linear

Linear to On-demand - (Linear-to-on-demand) - TV links are made available for the viewer to activate with their remote control device. Via these, viewers are able to access on-demand content, often in the form of ads, or products for sale.

Non linear

Nonlinear - A term in regard to editing and storage of audio, video and other data. Data can be carried up from the media without having to know actually where it was arrived onto that media.

Nonlinear Programming - These are advanced, non-traditional ways of presenting television. In many ways it's the opposite of appointment-based television. Many reflect video on demand and other forms of interactive TV nonlinear.

Nonlinear Editing - This is not having to edit the program to keep the continuity of the program complete, therefore if you change one part of the program or story, it won't effect the next part of that program or story.

recurrent and abnormally vivid recollection of a traumatic experience, as a battle, sometimes accompanied by hallucinations.

realist

The techniques by which a media text signifies ideas and pictures that are held to have a true relationship with the actual worl. Realism means different things in different texts - realism in animation means something entirely different to realism in soap opera. it is important to assess how much a text strives for realism, how much audiences are expected to think it is realistic.

Antirealist

anti-realism describes any position involving either the denial of reality or the denial that verification-transcendent reports are either true or false. This last construal is sometimes stated. Therefore, one may speak of anti-realism with respect to other minds, the past, the future, universals, mathematical entities, moral categories, the material world, or even thought.

Open narratives

An open narrative structure leaves matters unresolved at the end, with more content to follow. For example:

A cliff hanger on a TV series episode.

A football match that has ended in a draw and needs a replay.

A news article with the suggestion that there will be more to report after more events have unfolded.

Close narratives

A closed narrative is one in which the key issues are solved at the end. For example:

A film that ends with all the issues that were set up throughout the narrative brought to a close with some kind of result.

A criminal brought to justice in a news story

The end of a football match and there is a final score and a definitive win
