Lessons- which are conducted in English. The priority is given to the integration and development of four language skills. 12 Aim of the course

แƒ™แƒฃแƒ แƒกแƒ˜แƒก แƒ›แƒ˜แƒ–แƒแƒœแƒ˜

The aim of the course is to develop communicative skills in English.Listening and Reading comprehension and W ritten and O ral expression, communicative interaction and mediation at the A1 level in multiple contexts. At the same time the course aims to promote autonomous learning, self-assessment, and remedial work with the lecturer. This forms part of their development towards achieving the necessary English Language level in an approved examination in order to graduate.

13 Outcome of the course and competence

Course Outcome : Subject/Area specific competences: Students will develop all four skills of language (Reading, writing, speaking and Listening) at A1 level on the Common European Framework and move to next A2 level. This is the first step towards the overall aim of acquiring English level and examination technique that will allow students to pass an IELTS examination with the appropriate score for graduation . Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

satisfy their basic communicative needs in a range of everyday situations.

Relevant comments are based on assigned. Group dynamic and level of discussion are occasionally better, but not worse, because of candidateโ€™s presence-8-7 points.

Limited interaction with peers. Preparation is inconsistent. When prepared, participates constructively in discussions. Group dynamic

Self Study Programme Assessment (15 points ) This is an assessment of the course work students complete outside of the classroom. This includes:

Exercises from the Students course book and itโ€™s accompanying workbook as set by the teacher with a deadline.

Exercises and activities from the online workbook which accompanies the course book set by the teacher with a deadline.

Exercises from the British Council global LearnEnglish website set by the teacher with a deadline.

Written assignments set by the teacher with a deadline.

Students keep personal portfolios, where they collect printed proof of completion of the E learning programme and home assignments. Students work together in groupings set by the teacher and through peer correction check completion and answers for the physical and digital work.Written assignments will be evaluated by the teacher according to the same criteria as for written mid-term and final evaluation. The marking scheme for self study comprises a maximum of 15 points in the course assessment. This is broken down into the following criteria and marked as follows:

Full completion on time (100%): 5 points;Mostly completed on time (80%): 4 points;Sometimes completed on time (60%): 3 points;Rarely completed on time (40%): 2 points;Seldom completed on time (20%): 1 point;Never completed on time (0%): 0 pointsFailure to demonstrate completion of set tasks will result in that part of the self study course being assessed as not completed. Note: while assessing self study programme, if a self study task set by the teacher is not fully completed by the deadline then it counts as being not completed. So, fully completion of tasks is as important as completion on time.

Mid Term Evaluations:Throughout the semester students will have to sit 2 integrated Mid Terms, which assess the following skills: 1) Reading and Listening, 2) Speaking

and Writing. The share of each assessment to the overall score (100 %) is 15 %.

Quizzes ( progress tests) - Students have to sit 3 tests - Quizzes 5 points each. These quizzes are an accompanying part of the course book and check progress on the grammar and vocabulary covered in the units.

Quiz scores vary depending on the exact one and so a scale will be set on each quiz to convert the quiz score into the assessment score on the scale of 0 โ€“ 5.

Reading skills evaluation : The format of the Reading skills evaluation will be the same as in the IELTS examination but set at an appropriate level for the course level.Reading texts are authentic, adapted where necessary so that most of the vocabulary and grammatical structures are accessible to students at this level. However, students are expected to be able to make use of interpretation strategies if they encounter unfamiliar lexis or structures.Simply expressed, two main criteria for evaluating Reading skills are the following:

Understanding of general information Comprehension of detailed information

The tasks can be of different kinds: multiple choice, open cloze, short answer questions, completion and matching tasks, True/False/Does not say. The time limit for the paper is one hour.One mark is awarded for each correct answer. Reading evaluation: 7.5 % of the overall score.

Students could be expected to write for example a short letter or email, description of a person, place, thing and short input text or rubric to prompt a written response.The criteria for evaluating Writing skills are the following:

Task fulfillment- Have the students followed the instructions exactly? Have they given a clear, accurate and relevant description of the information?

Coherence and cohesion-Is the writing well organized? Are sentences logically linked?

Vocabulary and sentence structure โ€“ Have students used a variety of appropriate vocabulary and are their sentences well constructed?

Writing evaluation: 7.5 % of the overall score

End of term evaluation

The End of Term evaluation takes place in the Mid Year Examination period for students.The test consists of 4 papers testing all four skills (as detailed above in the Mid term evaluations): The criteria for marking will be the same as above.Each paper is given equal weighting and correlates to a score which expresses competence at A1 level on the CEF. Each paper will be used as a benchmark for awarding a score on the course assessment score on the scale of 0 โ€“ 7.5. Total: 30 % of the overall score.
