SEYMOUR CAPILANO FILTRATION PLANT
4
Seymour Capilano Filtration Plant
• Met turbidity removal objectives under the GCDWQ
• Effective removal of organics and colour resulting in:o Less chlorine required for
secondary disinfectiono Lower levels of disinfection by-
products
Water Committee

COQUITLAM WATER TREATMENT PLANT
6
UV Units
• Ultraviolet light provides primary treatment for Giardia and Cryptosporidium
• Meets the requirements of the GVWD Operating Permit and GCDWQ for an unfiltered source

Drinking Water Sample Analysis
GVWD Transmission System Water Mains and Reservoirs:• Approximately 7,500 samples collected and
99.6% were negative for coliform bacteria• No E. coli detectedLocal Government Distribution Systems:• Approximately 20,000 samples collected and
99.8% were negative for coliform bacteria • No E. coli detected

DISINFECTION BY-PRODUCTS
8
• Disinfection by-products (DBPs) are produced by disinfectants reacting with naturally-occurring organic compounds found in the source water.
• There are two main groups:o Trihalomethanes (THMs)o Haloacetic Acids (HAAs)
2020 Average MV TTHM = 22 µg/L2020 Average Municipal TTHM = 31 µg/L
2020 Average MV THAA = 24 µg/L2020 Average Municipal THAA = 30 µg/L

CONCLUSIONS
9
• Both Water Treatment Plants servicing the GVWD region met requirements of:o Provincial GVWD Operating Permit o Federal Guidelines for Canadian Drinking
Water Quality • System wide, delivered water quality
was excellent in 2020
