Equestrian Training work with Carlisle College to provide City and Guilds Levels 2 and 3 Work Based Diplomas in Horse Care & Management for 16-23 year olds. We currently have employers spread throughout Cumbria and into Northumbria and the Borders. This year, in partnership with the College, we are also able to offer traineeships to those who are unemployed and need to do their maths and English Functional Skills, or perhaps also those who are unsure as to whether they want to pursue a career with horses and can get a taster through work experience.
Equine Intermediate Apprenticeship. Duration 12-18 Months (Also available - Equine Advanced Apprenticeship) Apprenticeship vacancies throughout Cumbria and Northumbria, in a range of equestrian businesses, including riding schools, livery yards, studs, and competition yards.
Dates Applicants can enrol throughout the year.
Cost Employers pay an apprenticeship wage and provide training support. The National Apprenticeship Service funds the
cost of the training.
Entry Requirements. Applicants must be employed full or part-time in the equine industry (we can help you find employment if it is not
in place).
Qualifications and/ or experience which will help applicants prior to starting:
• NVQ Level 1 in Horse Care
• BHS Stage 1 / Level 1 Diploma in BHS Horse Knowledge and Care
• Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care
• Pony Club C Test
• Have previously worked or currently be working with horses
Qualification
On successful completion of this programme, Apprentices will gain an Equine Intermediate Apprenticeship which will include the following
qualifications:
• Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Horse Care
• Level 2 Award in Business for the Environment and Land-based Sector
• Employer Rights and Responsibilities Workbook
• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Record of Achievement
• HSE Emergency First Aid
If required, intermediate apprentices will also achieve the following functional skills qualifications:

Contribute to safety solutions to minimise risks to your community For the Advanced Apprenticeship (level 3), candidates must have at least 3 GCSE grade A* to C including Maths and English. In addition we are looking for candidates who have:

Practical outgoing and good communication skills The following skills and attributes are essential to apprentices in this occupation: • motivation to succeed • willingness to learn and apply that learning in the workplace • ability to communicate effectively with a range of people • ability to work in a team environment • ability to achieve operational physical fitness Firefighters often work under a shift based system; so an apprentice must be prepared to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays as required. The following are not entry conditions for this framework but are included for information as these are likely to be the conditions set by Fire and Rescue employers to gain employment as a Firefighter: Applicants will be put through a range of ability tests including psychological tests to assess their ability to process information, problem solve and work with numbers. There may be a questionnaire to assess their personal qualities and attributes. Applicants also have to complete numerous physical tests which assess their physical competence and their confidence and ability to follow instructions. Due to the high-risk nature of the work applicants to Fire and Rescue Services are required to reach the age of 18 years or over before undertaking operational duties. Applicants usually have to complete a declaration of any criminal convictions that are unspent (under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974) and also pass a medical. You will need to have the ability to work in a team environment, be level-headed, a good communicator and be able to take decisive action in emergency situations. You will also need to be aware of the following National Firefighter Selection Personal Qualities and Attributes (PQAs) which will be measured throughout the recruitment and selection process:

The provider will provide training and assessments for each specific apprenticeship in the workplace and at various locations around the county. The training provider will ensure that successful candidates have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their ability, tailor programmes to meet individual needs whilst recognising prior qualifications and experience. Entry to an apprenticeship scheme will usually involve an online skills assessment. This assessment is not a barrier to entry to the apprenticeship, but has been put in place to ensure a good match between the candidate’s aptitude and the apprenticeship. It also enables extra support and guidance to be given to the apprentice if required. The level of qualifications will depend on your previous achievements and the job role you are in, but you could achieve: • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Emergency Fire Services Operations in the Community; • Level 3 Diploma in Emergency Fire and Rescue Services Operations in the Community; • Functional Skills in English; Maths and IT; • Personal learning and thinking skills; • Employment Rights and Responsibilities.
