From Pastor Kent
Dear Friends,
Turn left at the next street called “Memory Lane”. In Italy where love
is king and boy meets girl they say: “When the moon hits your eye like a big
pizza pie, that’s amore”. Performed by Dean Martin, this classic has to
make you smile as you or other couples gaze into each other’s eyes.
Amore! Love! And we must not forget the king. Elvis’ “Love me tender,
love me sweet, never let me go. You have made my life complete, and I love you so.” This
is a warm expression of love and affection. Love! Does any one remember the Beatles’
song, “I love you yeah, yeah, yeah”? JJ How can you not smile or laugh when singing that
one to the one you love. Love! So let’s talk about Love, Amore, Rakkaus, Die Liebe,
Liefde.
Did you know that there are two different words used in the New Testament for love?
Phileo, and agape. Phileo is more of an emotional love, and represents tender affection
towards another, but unlike an intimate love (erota) which is between two lovers. The
word Philadelphia, the city of “brotherly love”, captures the meaning of phileo type love.
Phileo is an emotional love, agape, on the other hand, is an attitude. It does not
depend on tender affection, friendship, or intimacy. It loves for the sake of love. It is with
agape that Jesus loves us and commands us to love one another. It is unconditional love
and acceptance.
February offers a time to focus on love. Buy someone some chocolates, or send
them a card. Ask your grandchildren to be your valentine. Let your friend know how much
you care. Surprise your wife or husband. Stand outside the window and sing to your true
love. Express your affection to others. And choose to go beyond the phileo type love
following Christ’s command to agape one another.
Take it away Fred…..”Heaven, I'm in Heaven, And my heart beats so that I can hardly
speak; And I seem to find the happiness I seek When we're out together dancing, cheek to
cheek.”
With Agape,
Kent

Benefiting MISSIONS & PRO-JECTS
Missions "The spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we be-
come." — Henry Martyn, missionary to India and Persia
Haiti- 200 students now attend an accredited school which is conducted in the church built there with funding
exclusively from our church. Our church pays for the teachers at this school and for the continuous updates to the schools infrastructure when needed. Currently we are trying to raise funds to rebuild the school house which was damaged this past hurricane season. It is our hope for the future of this school that it can become self-sustaining. Until then please continue to support this project and the other missions of the UMCPB with your prayers and with your finances.
Mission Boxes: Donations to the Mission Boxes for the month of February will go toward our overseas mis-
sions in Cuba, Peru, Haiti, and India. Thank you for your continued generosity.
CROS Pantry: Bring in some extra nonperishable items for the CROS Food Pantry. Please remember the

Extending God’s extravagant love by opening our hearts and doors to persons with disabilities.
The Night to Shine Prom is days away. In February 2016, 201 churches representing 23
denominations and 70,000 volunteers in 48 states and 7 countries came together on one
night to celebrate 32,000 honored guests with special needs in what has become not just a
nationwide event, but a worldwide movement, celebrating people with special needs. It is
our second year of joining with Tim Tebow Foundation in changing Valentine’s Day week-
end from simply a celebration of love into a celebration of God’s love for individuals with
special needs. This year, it is anticipated that over 32,000 individuals will be crowned kings and queens of the prom.
We are excited to be part of this worldwide movement.
So many people are helping to make this possible. At UMCPB, we have a team of volunteers who have diligently
worked to open our doors and hearts to a population who is sometimes ignored and marginalized. It is an honor to
be part of a church family willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ by loving others.
There is still time and ways to help this effort. Pray, pray and pray. Please hold this ministry in your prayers that we
are able to reach someone with the beautiful message of Jesus Christ; that we are doing God’s will. Or perhaps you
would still like to participate in the prom. Further, you can support this ministry by not judging but loving individuals
who may be differently abled.
Thank you, to the members of UMCPB, for hosting Night to Shine and for supporting our Through the
Roof Ministry.
Serving in Christ’s Love, Rev. Phyllis
Not until we walk in someone's shoes do we understand the hardships and lone-liness one faces. As people age and find themselves no longer able to get out of their homes, the church family needs to step up and help to maintain the connection with God and the church community. What does this look like?
It may mean you need to be observant and notice when someone no longer can get to church… Do you
know someone who is no longer able to attend church? If so, please let the office know so we can place
him or her on our homebound list.
It may mean you can drive someone who cannot drive themselves… Would you be available, once a
month to transport a non-driving member to and from church?
It may mean you can take communion into their homes so they too can remain assured
of God's love… We have a ministry group who takes communion to our homebound
members once a month. If you would be interested in serving on this ministry group,
please contact Rev. Phyllis 561-214-0133. Training will be available for those who have
not served.
It may mean, you can send cards, or make phone calls, or visit the homebound...Sue Downing is doing a
fantastic job of staying in contact with our homebound members. Imagine if more than one person
would be willing to connect with our homebound members. They may actually feel a part of our
congregation even though they cannot get to the church.
If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Rev. Phyllis 561-214-0133.

Greater LOVE has no one than this: to lay down one's life for
one's friends. John 15:13
February is a month of heart sand paper valentines given to
classmates. It is a time we think of those special to us and
how we can show them how important they are to us. Who
is on your list? Family? Friends? Jesus?
Jesus? How would I give him a valentine? It is a strange question at first. Our relationship with Jesus is
one of accepting his live and forgiveness and sharing it with the world. One way we can show our love is to
show love to those who are important to him , His friends.
When Jesus was on the earth his friends included tax collectors, foreigners, Roman soldiers, and women
with bad reputations. People who were in a hard place felt comfortable talking to him and learned that his
Love was bigger than their difficulty. Family promise is one way we can share that love with people in our
community.
So often these families have been let down, they have lost jobs, homes, sometimes been deserted by
friends and families who they thought would help them when things were hard. They need someone to
hold their hand and let them know God’s love is still there for them. When you plan a meal, stay the night,
or come with us to an outing, you are giving up your time for them. You are helping Jesus’s friends in
need.
We are gearing up for our next week of FAMILY PROMISE.
March 5 – 12.
Pray and think about how you can get Involved with reaching out to these wonderful families.
God Bless,
Tiffany Zaniewski

It is that time of year when our high school seniors with dreams of going to college head to the mailbox
daily in hopes of receiving that acceptance letter from the university of their choice.
A major concern families face is how to pay for college should their senior get that acceptance letter. Did
you know that as a member of UMCPB, there are scholarships available to help with the cost of attending
college?
The Scholarship Committee at the UMCPB is now accepting applications from college bound students,
and from students who are currently enrolled in a higher education institution. Attached are the criteria for
applicants as well as an application.
