FOUNDER St. Francis of Assisi Founded the
Franciscan Order In 1220, St. Francis Resigned from
being General of the Order (but he maintained control).
BEGINNING OF ORDER St. Francis was Inspired After he Heard a
Sermon(Mt. 10:9) so he Devoted Himself to Christ.
The First Rule of the Franscican Order was originally presented to Pope Innocent III in 1209, but was lost in History.
Pope Honorius Approved the Order in 1223 (the definitive rule).
MISSION OF ORDER Evangelization: preaching the gospel
and converting all peoples to Catholicism.
To observe the Holy Gospel, to live in obedience with out the presence of possessions, and in chastity. Pledging obedience to Pope Honorius III, the Church, and obey St. Francis and his successors.
