AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES

Entry Forms Available online at wchsmuseum.org or at the Warren County History Center, 105 S. Broadway, Lebanon, OH 45036.

Delivery Dates Please bring your completed gingerbread house, entry forms, and fees to the Warren County History Center November 15 through 22. Deadline is Tuesday, Nov 22, 2016. Hours for drop off are Tuesday-Friday 9 am to 4 pm and Saturdays 10-5. CLOSED SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS

Judging Three judges will be selected from the local community. Judging will take place on Friday, November 25 at 10:00 a.m. The People’s Choice award will be announced during the downtown Lebanon Horse Carriage Parade on December 6; you will be notified if you receive an award and winners will be posted on our website. Judges are given these guidelines to follow. Judging is subjective.

Note: Houses will also be reviewed for soundness of structure and adherence to size and construction guidelines (guidelines are described on page 2). If we must make major repairs prior to judging or if house does not meet guidelines, it will not be eligible for an award.

Display Every effort will be made to display all entries to their best advantage; however due to limitations of our display areas, detailed interiors or backs of houses may not be visible during Display. Most houses will be viewed from the front and side.

All houses will be on exhibit the two days after Thanksgiving, November 25-26, at the Warren County History Center (free admission these two days). Hours on Friday, November 25 are 9 am to 4 pm and 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (during the Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting festivities); and on Saturday, November 26 from 10 am to 5 pm. The 1st place winners will be moved to Glendower Historic Mansion (105 Cincinnati Avenue, admission charged) and displayed through December 31. The remaining houses will remain on display at the History Center through December.

You may pick up your house after January 1st. (If you prefer to take your house sooner, just let us know)

All entries must use edible construction material

Structure cannot exceed two feet in height. Small to medium size single-structure houses (rather than scenes) with minimal yards are recommended

Building an infrastructure for support is highly recommended—use foam core or heavy cardboard with a substantial amount of Royal Icing as “glue”

Do not use batteries or electronic components

No inedible decorative objects or props

You must use ONLY Royal Icing (recipe below)! Egg or butter icings quickly spoil and deteriorate!

If baking gingerbread from scratch, bake several days in advance of building to prevent shrinkage

Do not use any component that requires refrigeration (i.e., Jell-O)

Use Generous amounts of Royal Icing and allow each portion to dry and harden before moving

Royal Icing Mix Together 1 lb. powdered sugar 3 tbsp. meringue powder (found at Lebanon Kroger, cake decorating or craft stores, and online) 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter

Add 3—1/2 oz. of water (slightly less than 1/2 cup)

Beat until icing forms stiff peaks and will hold a sharp line when knife is drawn through. Keep covered with a damp cloth to keep icing from drying out. Work with small amount of icing at a time. Store unused icing in a tightly closed container.
