A poem for Fall
"Over the river and through the woods Trot fast my dapple gray. Spring over the ground Like a hunting hound
On this Thanksgiving Day, Hey! Over the river and through the woods
Now Grandmother's face I spy. Hurrah for the fun,
Is the pudding done? Hurrah for the pumpkin pie."
- English folksong, It's Raining, It's Pouring

Did you know?
Americans generally refer to this time of year as “fall,” while the British use the word
“autumn.”Historically, Fall was called “harvest” because of the “harvest moon” that occurs close
to the autumn equinox.

Mr. Galarza has been teaching for 24 years, but he has only been teaching at Salazar for eight of those years. He teaches Chicano Studies, Economics, Physical Education and he is the yearbook editor. He went to college at San Diego for 3 years, Cerritos College for 3 years, and he went to Cal State University. Mr. Galarza said he also has brains not just beauty. Mr. Galarza says that every day is different but he loves to see the students understand the topic and he loves watching his students grow and achieve their goals. Mr. Galarza also says that all of his students are his favorite. His favorite experience teaching is watching his students graduate; he said that he is really proud and happy to witness it. A fun fact about Mr. Galarza is that he is a juggler and he knows how to do magic.
Thanksgiving started off as a Harvest Festival on the 4th Thursday of November. This happened since the pilgrims and then in 1789 by request from George Washington. The Continental Congress proclaimed that day as Thanksgiving. Thomas Jefferson didn’t really like Thanksgiving, because to him it meant supporting state-sponsored religion.
The History of Thanksgiving By Jeremy Chavez
Abraham Lincoln, as President, made
Thanksgiving a Federal Holiday in 1863 during the American Civil War. Franklin Roosevelt tried to move Thanksgiving to the third Thursday, but the people hated that and so that’s how we still celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in 2019.

Trim the tree, stuff the stockings, make hot chocolate, and watch some classic holiday movies here are some recommendations that I suggest: Home Alone is about an 8-year-old troublemaker who must protect his home from a pair of burglars when his family accidentally left him alone during Christmas vacation. Another Christmas movie to watch is Jingle all the Way. A workaholic Howard Langston (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) wants to make things up with his son Jamie and wife Liz. He promises the son the hottest toy of the season, Turbo-man, even though it’s Christmas Eve. Finally but not least, The Polar Express-- a boy who has reached an age where he begins to have doubts about believing in Santa. Late one Christmas Eve, he was awakened by a mysterious train. The train was heading to the North Pole. The boy joins several other children as they embark on a journey to visit Santa Claus.
