By Yazmin Alvarez

What do you get whenyou mix pyrotechnics, dancers and a Cyborg

army with motocross? The Nu-clear Cowboyz. The freestyle motocross riders

will skyrocket 30-feet in the airperforming acrobatic flips, sweep-ing through hurdles of bolsteringflames and lighting riders on firein a highly theatrical experienceApril 5-7 at Citizens Bank Arenain Ontario. The show follows a futuristic sto-

ryline in a post nuclear Los Anglesin 2150. During daylight, the pop-ulation spends its time trying to re-build the city and technology. Atnight, the world turns undergroundwhere two motorcycle gangs com-pete to own the city—enter theNuclear Cowboyz roaring throughthe stadium for the big entrance. But the Cowboyz are invaded by aTemptress-led Cyborg Army, whorides in on a chariot, shooting atthe Cowboyz. The army roars inon bikes and quads and is armedwith lasers and pyros to destroythe Cowboyz and take over theearth. At this point, 25 riders areon the floor and the battle begins.“It’s not Shakespeare, but it’s

pretty good,” said Micky Dymond, stunt director for the Nuclear Cow-boyz. “It’s quite a show. In manyrespects we’re doing what you seeat the X-Games but with pyros andlasers and we’re putting multipleguys on the floor at once. We getit done.”Dymond said there is so much

pyrotechnics involved that thetemperature in the arena will riseabout five degrees in a matter ofseven minutes. And while theshow has intense moments, it’sdefinitely a family-friendly show.He said it no longer attracts thetypical freestyle motocross crowdof 18-30-year-old men.“We’ve grown into a broader au-

dience and that makes a big differ-ence for the show,” he said. The motocross show is wrapping

up its fourth season with threeother weekends left after the On-tario visit, including two in Mex-ico and the last in Texas.Shows at the Citizens Business

Bank Arena are scheduled 7:30p.m. Friday and Saturday with afinal show at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tick-ets start at $10 and are availablethe day of the show or online at

www.nuclearcowboyz.com.Dymond said there are talks of

developing an entirely new showfor next season, but for now, he’senjoying the ride.“The show itself has so much in

it right now, but we can always gobigger and better. Either way, it’san opportunity to come and enjoya show that’s awe-inspiring.”
