INTRODUCTION For the final project of Constructed Landscape (ARC3343), students were required to select a 10m x 10m site within campus grounds to analyse as a group of six. With the site analysis in hand, students are then required to come up with a green space proposal for that specific area. Our group has chose the self-‐study area located next to the library entrance on the second floor. This open space is regularly visited by students for various activities; ranging from group discussions to resting.

SITE ANALYSIS

Weather In the morning, the sun will rises from the east, the sun light is blocked by the Block C and Block D buildings. At noon, the sun is located at the west site, making our site hot and dry. The western wind blows directly onto the site thus making the site windy. There is a slight breeze that comes from the north east.
Furniture There are 16 tables and 64 chairs on the site. There are 10 plants at the right side and 15 plants at the left side. There is a dustbin provided at the right side Ambience . In our site, we can hear many student chating and discussing all the time. We can also hear soft noises of traffic. Problem The usage of the site is limited to the weather. As it is an open space, no proper roofing is provided thus the site will become unusable when it rains. After the rain stops, the site becomes wet and slippery.

CONCEPT After analysing the site, the concept we were to approach was taken into deep consideration. We wanted to link the natural elements of the site and the needs of the students. Thus we decided to use a patio rest area concept. Below are the illustrations of our concepts.

PLANTS
Common Name: Spiny Black Olive Scientific Name: Bucida molineti Description: Evergreen tree. Leaves, broader than longer, 5 - 10cm in length, heart-shaped at the base, deeply notched at the apex. Twigs grow densely in storeys on whorls around the trunk. Bark, yellowish brown with white warts. Large white flowers. Long, narrow, flattened pods, 20-30cm by 1.5-2.5cm.

CONSTRCTION DETAILS
The wooden deck is a flat surface capable of supporting weight, similar to a floor, but typically constructed outdoors, often elevated from the ground, and usually connected to a building
The diagram above shows the detail of the deck construction

PERGOLA
A pergola is a garden feature forming a shaded walkway, passageway, or sitting area of vertical posts or pillars that usually support crossbeams and a sturdy open lattice. This design uses three layers of interlocking roof beams, but remains open to sky and breeze to offer the best combined features of patio, porch and deck.

THE COST PLAN
17
MAINTANENCE COST
MAINTANENCE PLAN The Cost Plan provides for maintenance by the contractor of the completed planting for a period of 12 months. Maintenance such as weeding, watering, pruning, fertilising, spraying and clearing of unnecessary growth etc, is deemed as necessary to ensure the proper growth of plants. The contractor is required to replace dead, stolen or drying plants throughout the maintenance period to the current sizes of those said plants at the contractor’s own costs. After the period of maintenance expires, the university’s maintenance team will carry out the fertiliser programme. It is important for the team to also prune the planting materials, clean the pavements an check all drainage and downpipes to ensure no blockage. Thus, cleaning of leaves is important. Sponsorship is needed for the construction as well as the maintenance of the project.

CONCLUSION The patio rest area has execellent accessibility to all students of Taylor’s University. The area overlooks the lake, enabling the students to relax and admire the picturesque view. The main compnents of this rest are the pergolas that provide shade for resting students. The plants that will be planted in this area will also beautify the building and ensure the green element on the campus does not fade away. The area will be known for its aesthetic beauty and its practicality. Due to this, the patio rest area will become a major landmark.
