ChassisBODYBUILDING. All chassis can be equipped with
features that simplify bodybuilding. Options include:
– Various types of brackets, as well as hole patterns for
bodywork available ex-factory, ready for installation
of the body.
– Rear end of frame cut to the desired length.
– Pre-installed electrics for several types of bodywork.
– Cable harness preparation in cab and on chassis.
– Bodywork functions can be connected using conventional
wiring or via the vehicle’s CAN-bus.
– Battery connection.
Scania is co-operating closely with selected bodybuilders in
many countries. In some markets, vehicles can be supplied
with tipper or mixer bodies fitted at the factory, thus
radically cutting lead times.

All driven axles can be optionally equipped with hub
reduction, if the operating conditions demand that. Frequently
used gear ratios on hub reduction axles for mining applications
are 5.68 and 7.18.
For all-wheel drive (AWD) trucks, transfer boxes can be
specified in two strengths. Front axle can be either permanently
driven or, as an option, engageable. Drive on the first axle gives
excellent mobility and traction in soft surface conditions (e.g. mud,
sand, snow), where the first axle paves the way for the remaining
axles, reducing rolling resistance.
Power take-off (PTO) units that are either clutch
dependent or clutch independent can be added, to
perfectly suit your application. PTOs are offered with
different ratios, torque and output levels.
For more detailed information, please visit
Scania’s bodybuilder homepage or contact your
local Scania representative.
Power take-offs
The whole range of Scania’s heavy-duty gearboxes
can be equipped with the Scania Retarder, which in
combination with an exhaust brake, greatly improves
the vehicle’s brake performance.
Scania Opticruise is an automated gearchanging
system that provides accurate and smooth gear-
changing for reduced driver fatigue and
improved productivity. The system always
selects the gear most suitable for the operating
conditions, significantly increasing the service
life of the gearbox.
With Scania Opticruise, it is still possible
to choose manual mode, and change gears
manually at any time.
8+1 gears – basic heavy-duty gearbox with
one crawler gear and one reverse gear.
Option: Scania Retarder.
12+2 gears – range splitter gearbox with two
crawler gears and two reverse gears.
Options: Scania Opticruise, Scania Retarder.
12+2 gears – range-splitter gearbox with overdrive,
two crawler gears and two reverse gears.
Options: Scania Opticruise, Scania Retarder.
12+2 gears – range-splitter reinforced gearbox with
overdrive, two crawler gears and two reverse gears.
Options: Scania Opticruise, Scania Retarder.
6+1 gears – fully automatic transmission with torque
converter and one reverse gear.
Option: Retarder.
Gearboxes
AxlesThe capacity of bogie axles is up to 16 tonnes per axle.
Parabolic or trapezoidal heavy-duty suspension options are
designed to suit high gross weights and the most severe
conditions.
Front axles have a capacity of up to 9 tonnes.

tipper with wheelbase 4300 mm. Canopy fulfilling FOPS
requirement.
Body tipping/lowering time: normally 30/15 sec.
depending on body type and supplier. Please consult your
local Scania representative for an accurate figure and for
data related to specific truck models/configurations.

The diagrams show one powertrain example.
Please ask your Scania dealer for accurate
diagrams of your specific combination.
Start in the right diagram and choose your gross
train weight (GTW). Go straight up until you
reach the inclination line of your choice. Go left
in a straight line until you reach the gradeability
curve. The gear used is marked above the line.
Go straight down and read the maximum speed
that can be maintained.

Vehicles can be specified with different chassis heights (semi-high or high) to ensure
sufficient ground clearance for good off-road mobility and protection of vulnerable
components. Rigid chassis are normally used for building tippers and service vehicles,
whereas tractors can match any type of trailers.
Starting with dump trucks, having up to 46 tonnes payload for in-pit
mining or moving out with 120-tonne outbound haulers, Scania can put
the right solutions in place to ensure an optimal logistical flow, taking into
account road conditions, speed limits, loading and unloading time, fuel
consumption, maintenance, personnel variables and much more.
