Under 13’s Win Tournament
C ongratulations to the Under 13’s 6 a side team
who managed to win the Independent Schools
tournament. We have finished second for the last
four years, so finally we have won this trophy proving that one
should never give up. It was played in extremely wet condi-
tions which helped our passing style of play. Akinola Adesina
and Joshua Cohen were outstanding in defence and we only
conceded one goal against seven teams. Ayodele Fagbohunka
came on as a substitution in the second game and scored four
goals which later would count to win us the tournament. Hen-
ry Jonscher was solid in goal and made some excellent saves from close range. Rikki Burgess and
Joel Matthews linked well to set up and score goals. In the penultimate game we were winning 1 -
0 . We made a mistake and they equalised in the last minute. A severe telling off followed and in
the last match we played our best game to produce the result which clinched the tournament.
Finally, we have won this trophy! Well done to the squad and we are looking forward to defend-
ing the trophy next year.

So far this netball season has seen some excellent performances from all teams. The girls at St. Johns are
dedicated to Netball; they are passionate about playing well and winning. The girls train on a weekly basis
during lunchtime and many of the girls have been continuing this training during P.E. lessons.
We currently have three teams entered in the Enfield Borough Schools Netball League: a mixed 1st and
2nd form team, a mixed 3rd and 4th form team and Senior team. This involves playing regular fixtures
against local state and Academy schools. This term the girls have played exceedingly well. There have
been numerous great performances. In 1st and 2nd Form I would like to thank Adaeze Akande, Jasmine
Harvey – Stone and Eva Carne for stepping up to the challenge and playing in the league with the 2nd
Form. They have all worked very hard, producing excellent passes and goal scoring opportunities. In the
3rd and 4th form team, Efeilomo Akande has been a star defender, controlling the end third. Zenab Ahsan’s
shooting this term has been outstanding. Well done!
This year the 5th form team were entered into the Middlesex Schools Tour-
nament on Saturday 11th November. The girls played really well and stepped
up to the challenge of playing against highly skilled schools. The girls thor-
oughly enjoyed the experience. There was a mixture of wins, draws and loss-
es. I would like to commend Adesawa Akande, Laura Bird, and Grace Firmin
for their outstanding performances.

I would like to use the newsletter to introduce myself to you all, I am the new
girls PE teacher. I recently graduated from Brunel University having studied a BSc
in Sport and Physical Education. Having been actively involved in a variety of
sports since childhood I discovered my passion for sport both through school
participation and extracurricular clubs; my individual interests in sport include
swimming, netball and athletics. I have competed at county and regional standard.
During university I was an active member of both the netball team and swimming
team. I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to teach at such a won-
derful, successful and warm school as St. John’s. The pupils and P.E. department have been a pleasure to
work with this term. I hope to inspire and motivate the pupils to take part in a variety of sports and
achieve and surpass their goals.

Golf Golf This term we have been going to a golf driving Range on the North Circu-
lar. When we are there we learn how to maximise our golfing potential by
working on various areas of golf; such as technique, how to conduct your-
self on a real golf course and all the proper golfing jargon. Every week one
of the golfers receives a medal for being the most improved or having pre-
formed best in the day’s challenge. Every week we all noticed changes and
improvements in the way we play golf. Even those of us who have not held
a golf club before have started to dramatically improve.

Earlier this month we entered the Enfield County Cross Country
event held at Trent Park and had some excellent results. Sam Leigh
and Harry Cox both came a respectable 10th position in their races,
out of 90 pupils. Jake Ward and Anthony Crittenden both came 14th
in their races with Maddie Abraham being the fastest girl finishing
31st. Congratulations to the other performers Harriet, Antigone,
Dunni, Rianna, Shunsuke, Rikki, Gianni, Cengiz, Henry and Daniel.

A daeze is a talented athlete who is very enthu-
siastic about sport, always putting in maximum
effort and often helping with

in netball. In Adaeze’s first term
she has represented the school in
the County Netball League and
played superbly.
S am has developed into a fine sportsman. He
is a competent skier, excellent cross coun-
