With summer in full swing and kids out of school, we often find ourselves creating overwhelming to-do list or using the weekend to run errands and get house work done instead of taking the time to relax and do things we truly enjoy. Our team of mortgage experts at Prime Lending Dallas have created a how-to work smarter, not harder guide in order to help you slow down, but still remain productive this summer. Below you will find tips from our expert mortgage team on how to get things done more efficiently so you can enjoy your weekends and enjoy the rest of the summer.

1.) Don’t lose focus.

With today’s modern technology, it is extremely easy to get side tracked from our daily tasks by check-ing email, taking a cell phone call, or visiting our favorite blog post. In order to help keep yourself from losing focus, allocate a set amount of time that you will work without checking any of those things that distract you from your main objectives. By not switching back and forth between work and your distractions, you will be able to work quickly and more efficiently than before.

2.) No more multitasking.

This tip goes along with the first tip about staying focused. Studies have actually shown that multitask-ing doesn’t necessarily lead to increased production. On the contrary, it actually slows us down because we will begin one task and then completely lose our train of thought when we switch to do something else. By the time we come back to the initial task, we have to find where we left off and pick back up. The best approach to getting tasks completed faster is to stick with one objective until it is 100% com-plete, then move on to the next item on your to-do list.

3.) Don’t be afraid to delegate.

Everybody has strengths and weaknesses, therefore, if you are not very good at a particular task, del-egate it to someone else. Also, if you’re pressed for time and you are comfortable with somebody elsehandling the job then hand it off. Try hiring an intern from one the local colleges to assist you with things such as social networking, blog entries, newsletters, etc. Your assistant will receive course credit and you will receive time for other things. It truly is a win-win situation. If you are not comfortable hiring anyone, try outsourcing a few of your tasks to a virtual assistant (VA). While technology pro-vides us with millions of distractions, it also allows us ways to get more work done in less time.

4.) Keep track.

For your daily tasks that require long, confusing processes to complete them, try writing down and keeping track of each of those processes. By doing this you will avoid all of the tiny, yet time consum-ing errors in your daily processes. Also, if you decide to move forward with hiring an assistant or intern, you will already have your daily processes written out for them to easily and efficiently follow.

5.) Watch your phone conversations.

If you are at a job where answering your phone is an absolute must, then keep every conversation on topic and to the point. If you are in the zone, and working on a task that requires your full attention then let your voicemail answer the call.

6.) Keep your inbox organized.

If your work email is combined with your personal email, separate them. Your work email should be used for work purposes only. Instead of responding to emails as they come in, try making time during the day to answer emails all at once. This will prevent you from losing time from multitasking that we touched upon earlier. Limit yourself to only responding to urgent messages right away and then reply

When you need a break, check your personal email, but make sure you do not waste too much time checking it. If you are one who receives several non-work related emails a day, check your personal inbox when you have completed all of your work for the day.

7.) Make time for yourself.

The last and probably most important tip that our Dallas mortgage experts can give is to make time for yourself. Don’t be afraid to schedule a little bit of “me” time.
