ACIDS AND ALKALI
Corrosive
Acids The word “acid” means “sour” in latin.
Everyday examples: Lemon Juice (citric acid), vinegar, Hydrochloric Acid and Sulfuric Acid.
If a substance is an acid it is know as “acidic”
Some acids are not corrosive and found in our food.
Example 1: Citric acid
Example 2:Tartaric acid
Example 3:Ascorbic acid
Example 4:Methanoic acid
Example 5:Hydrochloric acid
Example 6:Lactic acid
Example7:Uric acid
What is the acid in vinegar?
Ethanoic acid. Also ethanoic acid is
produced from wine.
But how can we get ethanoic acid from wine??

What are organic acids?
All acids of animal and plant origin including ethanoic acid are said to be organic acid EXCEPT hydrochloric acid

Uses of nitric acid: They use it to separate silver and gold
as it dissolve silver but does not dissolve the gold.
Alkalis Opposite of acids. Equally as corrosive and dangerous as
acids. Alkalis are soluble in water”
How would you know if a substance is an acid or a base? The LITMUS test (Indicator Test)
How would you know how strong an acidic or a base is? pH scale. What does pH stand for? What does pH mean?
