OBJECTIVE of the booklet

• Develop basic communication skillsto handle problems commonly encountered in daily life (“life skills”)

• Stimulate discussion and criticalthinking among participants

• Engage participants to play an active role, and applynew concepts in their daily practice

TRAINING APPROACH

• Focus on practical aspects of communication rather then on theories

• Pictures play an important role

• All pictures where taken in Tigrayto create major involvement

• Most of the examples are tailoredfor the CASA project

Language

The booklet was originally produced in English and a video of the lessons will also be available in English

EnglishTigrinya

Considering that language may be a barrier for some health workers and patients’ associations, we decided that the training material will be in two languages

1. Receive the printed copies of the booklet 2. Answer the pre-test the tutor distributes and collects before you start the course3. Carefully read the lessons (or watch the video in English)4. Discuss the contents of the lessons with your colleagues5. Critically consider suggestions provided6. Answer the questions included after each lesson7. Revise the lessons, if necessary8. Take the final test9. Receive certification of accomplishment10. Celebrate!
