Why is it important to keep kids engaged in reading?

Objective: We will analyze & incorporate different components of the reading program through:

Daily Five

AVID

Great 8

We will do so through the creation of:

Anchor chart

Group discussion/collaboration

Literacy structure that allows for differentiation

Integrated literacy instruction & classroom management system utilized in reading & writing

System of 5 literacy tasks that teach students independence

Provided students with substantial time to read & write which accelerates learning

Builds stamina to ensure longer periods of time students successfully read & write

Articulates student behaviors that culminate in highly engaged learners while teaching students to understand/monitor their literacy goals

Why Use the Daily Five?

The Daily Five is a Student driven management structure designed to fully engage students in reading & writing.

Focus on spelling & vocabulary

Experiment with words for learning and practice spelling patterns
