How did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation Question 5

Summary

Overall I addressed my audience by using the research I had gathered before the production section, to formulate my designs.

Comparing Front covers

Similarities between my product and professional product are:Mast head in the top leftBold titleListing articlesBanner at the top/bottom

Differences:Shot typeFonts

Analysis of front cover

My front cover’s layout is similar to that of Q and NME magazine, who I had done initial research on

My mast head is slightly less simplistic as Q and NME, however, it still follows the Red, White, and Black colour scheme which I had found to be prominent in music magazines

I used the idea of listing articles, which I found to be very effective in NME magazine

Also similar to NME magazine, my main title is in big, bold red letters, which really catches the readers attention

I have also included a banner listing some of the magazines contents, this is similar to that on both Q and NME magazines

Comparing Contents pages

Similarities:‘Contents’ at topList of articles left hand sideReview sectionMain image position

Differences:Only two different images

Contents page Analysis

I styled my layout on that of Q magazine as I thought that it was effective whilst doing my initial research

I have included a review section like Q magazine, as well as regulars and specials

However, NME magazine has included many more images then my own and has used a white and black colour scheme, as opposed to my red, white and black colour scheme which I stuck to after my initial research

Double page spread analysis

Similarities:Main image on left pageText on right pageQuote at top of right page

Differences:Each spread is mainly specific to the artist they are about

Double page spread analysis

The layout I found most effective was having the left page as a main image of the artist and the right page the main article from my research, so that influenced my design

I also included a quote above the article as I found that to be common in many double page spreads and that it looks quite professional

I also feel that I stuck to my red, black and white colour scheme

Front cover timeline

1) Initial sketch of layout on oddpod.com, based on my research of Q, NME and RWD magazines

2) Basic first draft - this was a mock up of what I was planning to achieve with my final draft using pictures I had not take myself

3) Improved draft – feedback from my target audience and Miss Emmett showed that the original draft was not eye catching enough, so I increased the amount of text around the main image and used more creative fonts

4) First attempt at the main front cover – I received feedback on this attempts as shown below:

5) From this I created my final design, changing the aspects that were recommended to be changed

Contents page timeline

1) As with the front cover this was a sketch on oddpod.com

2) This was another mock-up of the design which I created on Photoshop

3) This was my first attempt at the final contents page. The feedback which helped me to complete my final draft is below:

4) Using my feedback from my first attempt of the contents page I created this as my final draft, changing the ‘special’ section to a more eye-catching colour as was suggested.

Double page spread timeline

1) As before, this initial layout sketch is also done on oddpod.com, showing my initial ideas for my layout

2) This layout, create on Photoshop furthers that of the sketch

In this first attempt at my double page spread I didn’t fully stick to the previous layouts as I thought this would work better, below is some feedback I received:

4) This is my final double page spread after taking on my feedback and using it to better my design
