File sharing The phenomenon by which we share our

files/folders with other members on the network is known as the file sharing.

The Reason Behind Folder SharingThe reason to share files and folder is that , when two or more than two persons are working on a network, they need to share their files and folders to other ones on the network.Here you can know how to share a folder and unshare on a network. There are some steps involved in file/folder sharing . Thee are described in next slides.

leave the name as New folder. Right click on the folder icon and click on sharing and security demand.

dialog box with the sharing tab exposed , notice that you cannot immediately start the sharing the folder. In the network sharing and security area , you have two choices : Network setup wizard or if you understand , the security risks but want to share the file without running the wizard, click here.

Folder Sharing The farmer option opens a somewhat arcane

wizard that’s aimed at home users who don’t have system administrative on staff. The wizard helps set up home networking features such as : IP address configuration and workgroup name. As a system administrator , you don’t need to use wizard . Just click on the latter option to start sharing files and folders.

You are not the woods yet. You will see the next dialog box.

After you enable file sharing , a dialog box appears

that represents the simple file sharing method. Notice the two frames : local sharing and Security and

network sharing and security. The local sharing and security setting are related to NTFS access controls placed on the folder and its content.

When you use simple file sharing , other users won’t have access to the folder or its content unless you drag the folder in shared Documents folder.

However , this is not “ sharing ” as we used to thinking about it , because file shares are accessible over the network.

To share the folder , you must place a

check mark in “share this folder” on the network box.

Next , the allow network users to

change my files option Becomes Available and is selected by default , if you don’t want users have the ability to write or change the file, you must to check mark from this check box. Click apply and then click Ok.

Close the new folder window. Right-click on

the New folder icon on the desktop and select the sharing and security command.

The properties dialog box will have changed. The sharing tab shows a more traditional set of options , and the security tab, on which you can view the NTFS permissions , will no appear. To see the share permissions on this folder , click the permission button.

For Un sharing To un share the already shared folder /

file . Press Right click on the folder , click on the properties and click on the box ” share this folder” unmark the box. As shown in the next Slide.
