Before you begin to create a PowerPoint presentation, you should:– have a focused topic– have a clear purpose– know who your audience will be

You should also ask yourself:– how much your audience members are likely to know

about your topic– what they might do with the information– whether they would appreciate humor

Use a Title Slide layout for the first slide in your show

Use Content layouts to provide concise bullet points or to insert graphics, videos, or photos for visual interest and richer communication

Include no more than 6 bullet points per slide, and keep them brief

Do not overuse graphic elements and animations

A PowerPoint presentation can be run manually, or it can be set up to run automatically

You can include notes and a script, and you can add a recorded narration

You can also present a PowerPoint presentation online or publish a PowerPoint slide show to the Web

Most of your work building a slide show is done using the Normal view, which splits the screen into three main sections, or panes– slide pane includes a large view of an individual slide– notes pane is below the slide pane and provides an

area for entering speaker notes– slide thumbnails pane is the left side panel which

shows smaller views of the slides

1. Press Win + C to display the Charms bar

2. Click the Search charm

3. Type PowerPoint

4. Click PowerPoint 2013 in the Apps results list to display the PowerPoint landing page

5. Click Blank Presentation

6. Click the New Slide button in the Slides group on the HOME tab

Exploring PowerPoint Views Normal view is the default view and is typically

where a presentation is created Outline view is used to create an outline or

storyboard for your presentation Slide Sorter view displays all the slides in the

presentation on one screen as thumbnails Notes Page view displays the current slide with

any added notes below it Reading view displays the slides in full-screen

view and is often used to review a presentation

Expanding and Collapsing Outlines When you are working on a long presentation,

the Expand or Collapse feature in the outline pane in Outline view can make it easier to view the slide information

This feature collapses the slide content in the outline pane, hiding subtopics from view when you double-click a slide icon

To reverse the process, double-click again and the subtopics display

Using Notes A good rule of thumb is to include only key

points on your slides and place supporting points or speaker notes in the notes pane

Many presenters write out information like statistics or quotes to help them through their presentation

Other presenters write out their entire speech for each slide

Working with Placeholders If you can’t find a predefined layout that works

for your slide, you can insert a text box to create a placeholder

To insert a text box, click the Text Box button in the Text group on the INSERT tab, click a blank area of the slide, and then drag to create the text box

You can then add content and drag the placeholder to an appropriate location on the slide

2. Hover your mouse pointer over the themes in the Themes group and then click the Facet theme to apply it to all slides in the presentation

3. In the Variants group, click the blue color variation

4. In the slide thumbnails pane, click Slide 1

5. Click the More arrow at the right side of the Themes gallery to display all built-in themes

6. Right-click Office Theme and then click Apply to Selected Slides

1. Click the VIEW tab

2. Click the Slide Sorter button in the Presentation Views group

3. Press and hold down the mouse button on Slide 9 and then drag the slide to the space between Slide 2 and Slide 3

4. Release the mouse button to place the slide in the new position

5. Click Slide 7, press and hold down the Shift key, and then click Slide 8
