A clustered settlement is a settlement patternidentified by its dense development around acentral church or public place. One example isHeca, Saudi Arabia which is one of the onlywater resources and, as a result, has aclustered settlement pattern.

Scattered Settlement

Scattered settlements are made up of individualbuildings scattered over a wide area. Oneexample is rural southwest Ontario which hasexcellent soil supply and has scatteredsettlement patterns.

Linear Settlement

Linear settlements are located in a line alongmain transport routes such as roads, railways,rivers and canals. One example is wheneveryone wanted to live near the St. Lawrenceriver in Montreal for the water and to fish.

Population Density

Population density is the number of peopleliving per square kilometer. Some places withhigh population density are Bangladesh and Hong Kong. Northern Ontario is a place with low population density.
