The music in the ident is quite upbeat it’s the music that is actually being played at the pool party, it starts of sounding distorted as its meant to sound like what the music would sound like If you where under water, once the shot changes to above water the music becomes louder and clearer and also faster. This ident does include live action as it shows real people in it, there an no animated features to this ident. I think the ident makes itv2 to come across to be a youthful channel and shows the audience that is has programmes that are fun and exciting, not to serious. The ident lasts for 15 seconds, but the narrator starts 4 seconds in, 15 seconds is enough time to show the ident and for the narrator to explain what’s on now and later. Itv2 viewers/ target audience are mostly younger people e.g. teenagers/ young adults. The ident appeals to these viewers as young people are actually shown in the ident also the ident has a young vibe to it for example you wouldn’t see a o.a.p running across Lilo’s. Vibrant and young colors are also used throughout the ident which I think helps it look youthful. This is ident is clearly entertainment led as it is for itv2 which only shows entrainment programmes they don’t have information led programmes this is shown through the idents as they are sill and fun and not serious. This ident gives me the impression that itv2 is a fun youthful channel with new exciting shows on it.

The images of the ident show the transformation of the trolleys moving into the channel 4 logo. There is only background music in this ident which is used in all channel 4 idents; it is not particularly slow or fast, the background music does start off though with the sound of the city for example cars and mumbled sound of people talking this works with the ident scenario as those are the sounds you would probably hear there. There is live action in this ident as it is in a real moving surrounding there is also people moving in the ident although they are not the main focus the moving transformation into the 4 is. Although the ident is using real life object animation is still used to create the 4 shape while also giving it a floating effect. This ident tells us that channel 4 is a channel for everyone as it is shown in an everyday scenario place; it may also try to come across as cultural as markets are sometimes seen as cultural places with different aspects of life in it. The ident is only 9 seconds long and it consumes of a narrator speaking over one second in telling us what program is coming on next. The tempo of the music matches the on screen tempo as I would say that they both move at the same pace and work well together. I think this appeals to channel 4 viewers as carry’s on the tone that the rest of channel 4 idents have, it is a surrounding everyone can relate to but with an edge. I think this ident is both entertainment and information led as it uses a market scenario as the information aspect but then the animation of the market setting turning into the 4 logo by using animation may be used to show entrainment side of it. The ident gives me the impression that channel 4 is a intelligent channel mixed it with entertainment and that it also sticks to its remits.

http://www.theidentgallery.com/bbc1-2010.php This ident is for channel one and it is of cyclists wearing colored capes riding in a circle formation. The images show close-up of someone on a bike then shots of everyone riding around in brightly colored capes in a circle. There is just background music playing in the ident as a narrator is speaking in it, it is the background music used in most of bbc1’s idents but it also has the ringing of bike bells at the very beginning which matches with the people riding the biked In the ident. This ident does have live action as its shown real people moving on bikes in a real location, there is no animation used in this ident. It is quite a simple design/ident but yet effective, I think it tells us that channel one is a channel for everyone as it doesn’t have a specific target shown from the ident, I think it also shows simplicity of the channel and that everything runs smoothly. The ident is 10 seconds long and the narrator starts speaking 6 seconds I think this gives enough time to grab the audience’s attention from hearing the bike bell noises. The onscreen tempo is normal paced which goes with the background music which is a steady speed, the tempo of the bells goes well with the first 3 seconds of the ident as it does start of a little fast. I think it appeals to channel 1 audience as this is what they are used to seeing with the usual formation of the circle and something happening around it. I would say that this ident is more entertainment led as it doesn’t really show any information aspects, its more visual than knowledgeable. This ident gives me the impression that bbc 1 is a channel for ages and types of people with a wide range of different genres of programs.

This is a channel 5 ident showing a car chase scene with the channel 5 logo on the side of the police car. The images show a black opening the ident then a channel 5 police car chasing and then smashing through a screen with the end shot focusing on the channel 5 logo. There isn’t much music in the ident it is just mostly the noise of a police siren going of, skid marks and fast car noises but in the middle of the ident a faint noise of fast intense music starts coming through and gets louder and louder. There is animation used in the ident, when the car smashes through the screen its as if it is a television screen giving it a 3d effect also once the car smashes through it start to turn into small graphic squares. This ident tells me that channel 5 shows criminal action tv shows, it may also show that channel is more aimed to men as allot of men watch crime programs. The ident lasts 18 seconds, which shows the whole chase and lets the narrator speak over it. The on screen tempo is fast as it’s a car chase, once the music kicks in it also fast matching them together, I think it is meant to give an intense feeling to the viewers watching. This ident appeals directly to people who watch car and criminal programs or films, the ident lets viewers know that they show these types of programs through the ident, I think channel 5 know they have a big fan base of people who like crime shows so they are enforcing this. I would say that this ident is entertainment led as it is showing an entertainment scene that is very visual. This ident gives me the impression that channel 5 show allot of entertainment programs and that is one of their main focuses.

This is a ident for bbc 3, the images show animation formed to show the bbc 3 logo. The music works with the moving of the animation and goes with it, the music quite upbeat. This ident is not using live action as it does not involve real people it is just animation, the animation is the main aspect of this ident. This ident tell me that the channel is quirky and bubbly and also modern, the color scheme also makes it look youthful. The ident lasts for 16 seconds, which shows the repeating of animations and graphics to show and form into the BBC 3 logo. The onscreen tempo is fast as the music moves fast and so does the animation, they work well together and they also link. This will appeal to BBC 3 viewers as it is youthful and exciting and also modern which reflects the types of shows bbc 3 shows. I would say that this Ident in entertainment led as it uses animation to entrain there is no information or really serious side to the ident. This ident gives me the impression that bbc 3 is youthful fun and exciting.

2What these have in common is that they all represent some about what their channel is about for example itv2 and bbc 3 both have younger viewers so they use more bright vibrant colors. Also all the idents have something entertaining or bold happening in them which help gets the viewers attention. They also all last for about the same duration except the channel 5 one which has more of an narrative.The key conventions I have noticed is that they are all different are aimed at different age groups they are still understandable and clear to all types of people. They also all involve some kind of music although it is mostly softened down music.When designing my own Ident I know now that I will need to doing something simple but yet effective that will grab the viewers attention. I will also do something clever as I think it more exciting for example to channel 4 idents, you

think it’s a normal setting but then the logo starts to move. I will also include something simple that shows what my channel is about and is clear.
