16th Independent CompanyA Band of ‘Saboteurs’ from the Company tested the security of a recently introduced Home Office Mobile Police Column. The exercise showed that it was no use to point an empty Browning automatic pistol in the direction of an oncoming & rapidly accelerating sixteen stone Constable. Despite a valiant effort by the twenty members of the Company, all were captured. The remainder of the exercise was spent naked in Ollerton Prison. At the social that was held afterwards it was observed by Sgt. Joe Nicholson’s friends that most of the Police already seemed to know him quite well!
