DESCRIPTION

The fifth grade Kids Care Club has developed a personal connection by adopting a school in Haiti: Dumarsais estime de Port au Ceil. Through project Operation Water Well, Sope Creek will be able to bring running water to this school. The water crisis in Haiti was worsened by the recent earthquake and Sope Creek students want to help.Sope Creek Elementary is partnering with H2O for Life (www.h2oforlifeschools.org) to help make this possible. Every penny raised by our students will be matched by Save the Children and 100% of the money we collect will go directly to digging a well at our adopted school. The Kids Care Club will be collecting donations on March 3, 4, & 5. Parents can make tax-deductible donations by writing a check directly to H2O for Life Schools, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

In Haiti, families travel far to gather water several

times a day

Page 6: Kids Care Club H2O for Life

To transport water they use bikes, animals, and

their backs!

Page 7: Kids Care Club H2O for Life

Access to clean water was a problem in Haiti even before the devastating January 12, 2010

earthquake.

Page 8: Kids Care Club H2O for Life

Since the earthquake, thousands of people from the capital Port au Prince are moving into the countryside looking for a new

place to live, and they need access to water too!

And, the funds we raise will dig a well to provide drinking water

We have several other partner schools in the United States:

• Douglas Middle School, WY

• Bensonhurst Youth Ministry, NY

• Idabel High School, OK

• Allen High School, TX

The money we all collect will be matched by SAVE the Children, and the well will be built this year!

Teachers, please teach your students about this need

• Show your students our power point on the Sope Creek blog

• Water jugs are available in the teacher’s lounge if you would like your class to experience what a student in Haiti does every day

• Stop to look at our bulletin board about Haiti and the need for clean water there

• Look for our news reports on SCNN

• Point out the signs we hang on water fountains and in the bathrooms at Sope Creek

And please support our money collection

March 3, 4, and 5!

We will collect donations from students in the hallways before school each morning.

The grade level that raises the most money will receive an outdoor recess and ice cream

party.
