OUR WORKSHOP

“I wish you could see the place here,” she wrote in 1923 to the novelist Sherwood Anderson. “There is something so perfect about the

mountains and the lake and the trees. Sometimes I want to tear it all to pieces — it seems so perfect — but it is really lovely.”

Let’s create the skies by using tints. The Lake consists of shades of darker blues. Mountains will be

added next in between the sky and the lake.

Students have various tempera paints of earth toned colors to choose from.

When the mountains will be dry, you will have to use larger brushes to create the trees. I demonstrate how to "hop" the brushes around the paper to give the illusion of

texture in the trees.

The last step is to switch to a very small brush and paint the trunks of the trees.

I demonstrated how to not use a lot of paint on a dry brush.
