► A quality that attracts your attention and makes you want to learn more about or to be involved in something.

► A motivational variable refers to the psychological state of engaging or the predisposition to reengage with particular classes of objects, events, or ideas over time.

SITUATIONAL INTEREST

► Refers to focused attention and affective reaction that is triggered in the moment by environmental stimuli, which may or may not last over time.

INDIVIDUAL INTEREST

► Refers to a person’s relatively enduring predisposition to engage particular content over time as well as to the immediate psychological state when this predisposition has been activated.
