Range of camera shots, such as high angles, tracking shots, zooms and close ups. Performance is shown throughout the video. Set in two different locations.

Camera work

The camera focuses on the band member who is singing and either pans left or right to show the area around them. Sometimes is shows the singer with one of the other members in the background - these shots usually have a shallow depth of field. A two shot/wide shot has been used to show two band members, and a wide shot or long shot has been used to show all three members. There are also several close ups of the piano that James is playing and of the guitar that Charlie is using, helping to convey the generic conventions of pop rock/pop punk music.

Busted - ‘Meet You There’ Twenty One Pilots - ‘Lane Boy’ The camera’s main focus is on Tyler and the two people in the white hazmat suits behind him. With straight cut shots to Josh playing the drums. The clips of Josh last approximately two seconds before reverting back to Tyler. There is a high angle looking on Tyler when he is singing the second verse, almost victimizing him, showing he is almost of less importance, however the camera angle soon changes back to eye level ; then showing a wide shot that includes Tyler and the two in the hazmat suits. The camera zooms into the two suits and zooms back out to show the band on stage performing to a crowd. Long shots and wide shots have been used to show the crowd participating. The camera then tracks Tyler as he runs and dances across stage using a long shot to show as much as possible, whilst also including quick shots of Josh playing the drums, using both close ups and mid shots and also shows the audience jumping up and down.

Editing

Straight cuts have been used entirely throughout the music video. There is no pattern to the transitions. The video starts with James, then cuts to Charlie and then to Matt, although this order changes as the video progress. At 3 : 21, the words : #MeetYouThere appear on screen, and cuts to black at 3 : 25.


Straight cuts are used to link the scenes together. The clips go from Tyler to Josh - these are edited quickly and last about two or three seconds. After 2 : 44 the cuts become more rapid and jumpy, the

cuts almost go in time with the beat of the music. After the song ends, the screen fades to black.


Sound

The beginning of the music video is the studio version of the song, and then 2 minutes into the video, the sound changes and the live version of the song can be heard. Near to the end of the video whilst on stage, about 2:06, Tyler speaks although we cannot hear what he is saying ; instead there are subtitles shown on screen so the audience is able to see what he is saying. Then, after he finished speaking there is a single drum beat and you can slightly hear the crowd cheering. When the song is coming to an end, Tyler finishes dancing and has his back to the audience which you can then hear cheering loudly.


Busted - Meet You There For this music video, there is just the instrumental sounds of the piano and acoustic guitar ; there is no other type of sound that is heard within the music video.

Genre

This is a video for a pop-punk/pop-rock song, it contains some characteristics of the genre, such as the use of instruments of the guitar and piano also show this. Also, the video is purely set in a studio, it helps to show the performance aspect of the video. Moreover, the clothes that the band are wearing help to show the newer mature look of the band.

Twenty One Pilots - ‘Lane Boy’ This is a video for an alternative ‘rock’/hip-hop song. This becomes apparent through the music that is heard and then through the crowd jumping and dancing along. This is also shown through the consistent beat heard through out the video, and even through the clothes that Tyler and Josh are wearing, such as the dark clothing, however Tyler challenges this convention by wearing a flowery kimono.

Narrative The story that is shown within this music video is that fame and success (shown characterized through the two people in jumpsuits who have the words written on their chests) can often have control over an artist, and often the fame and success of an artist's career can control what music the artist produces ; they produce music for the audience/fame/success instead of for themselves. The video shows this through Tyler falling to his knees/crouching on the ground in front of them. At the end of the video ‘fame’ and ‘success’ are kneeling with Tyler still standing, showing that he has control over them and he decides what he does with the band’s music and career.



This video is a studio performance of the song that the band had originally recorded/performed in 2003. It shows the band’s comeback. It not only shows the band whole again, but it also reintroduces the band to its old audience but also to a newer audience and generation that may or may not have heard of them. This is essentially the band’s comeback song, even before releasing their newest single ‘Coming Home’.

Performance

Busted - Meet You There The performance within this music video is the main focus. As the video’s location is set in a recording studio, it helps to set up that ‘vibe’ too it. The video is made to show the band’s re-recording of the song and helps to show that the band is back and that they are still the same band from back in 2005.

Twenty One Pilot - Lane Boy The performance in this video in mainly shown in the last minute or show, the main focus is on Tyler with the two people in jumpsuits, this tells the main narrative of the music video. This performance section in the video helps to portray the meaning behind the song.

Representation Twenty One PilotsIn this Josh is represented as the typical drummer within a band, he isn’t shown to be doing anything else. The two people in the white jumpsuits represent society and the music industry, shown through their ways of ‘controlling’ Tyler as he walks around and dances. Tyler, is representing himself and Josh as the band showing that they won’t allow the industry to control what music that they produce.

Busted In this music video, Charlie, Matt and James are represented differently to what they used to be. In this video they are represented as being professional recording artists - shown as they are playing/recording in a studio. They are also shown to have matured from their previous years, they aren’t jumping around and running about like they used to do in their previous music videos, also there changed dress sense shows how they have matured as they used to wear things like long shorts and colourful t-shirts with parts of their hair dyed, instead they have an older, more mature look to both their outfits and them.

Institution A music institution are the companies that fund and create the music videos that the consumer audience watch. These particular institutions are better known as record labels. A record label is a brand or trademark that is associated with the marketing of the music recordings and music videos.

Twenty One Pilots’ record label is Fueled By Ramen. Fueled By Ramen LLC is an American record label that is distributed Atlantic Records (and Warner International). The label was founded in 1996 in Gainesville, Florida. The label usually signs artists of different rock genres such as Paramore and Panic!At The Disco.

Busted have been signed to three record labels : Universal Island Records, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group.

Values and Ideology

The idea behind the song is that it is the rebuttal of the idea that a band should stay within its ‘lane’ and keep producing similar sounding music. Tyler uses the song as a platform to say that he and Josh will not be defined by their early music. In regards to the music video, Tyler had said that the two people in the jumpsuits are almost controlling him, and he is being forced to ‘obey’ them and is ‘choreographed’ by them. This music video seemingly addresses the audience itself, thus breaking the fourth wall, especially shown through the use of the line ‘They say stay in your lane boy, lane, boy. But we go where we want to. ’ Why people fall down to fame and success

Twenty One Pilots - ‘Lane Boy’

This was the first song that the band had performed together again, ten years after their split, the song is their first new recording in 12 years. ‘Meet You There’ is meant to be the return/comeback of the band. The re-recording of the song helps to show the maturity of the bands physical look and their vocals. It could also show that as the band have matured, their audience have also matured during the twelve year hiatus. Also, the re-release of the song can also introduce the band to a newer generation who may not have heard of the band before, therefore expanding their audience. Also, this is the song that they had used to help announce the comeback tour in 2016 ‘Pigs Can Fly’. The hashtag #MeetYouThere, could be the band’s way of addressing their audience to meet them ‘there’ - with there in this context being the concert. ’
