INTRODUCTION
• India is the second largest country in the world with over one billion people of diverse socio-cultural back ground. The population of the world is increasing in an exponential manner. India with the population of 843 million is the second most populous country in the world next to china and seventh in land area. With only 2.4% of worlds land area, India is supporting 16% of world population.
DEFINITION OF POPULATION:
A population is all the organisms that both belong to the same group or species and live in the same geographical area
In sociology, population refers to a collection of human beings
POPULATION PROBLEM HAS THREE DIMENSION:
• 1. The number of people versus limited amount of material resources.
• 2. People versus cultural resources.
• 3. Society’s ability to satisfy mans total needs, physical, mental and social.
CAUSES OF POPULATION EXPLOTION IN INDIA
• High birth rate with declining death rate leads to population explosion. According to 1991 census, the birth rate is 30.5 per 1,000 population per year and the death rate is 10.2 per 1,000 population per year. The main causes of high birth rate are:
