Image result for horror background tumblrProduction Name and Logo Decisions

Image result for horror background tumblrImage result for broken crossInitially, we decided to use this image, which we had chosen from Google images, as our production logo. We thought that this image would be very suitable as our logo, due to the sub-genre of our trailer, that we intended to follow. The image itself, in my opinion, can symbolise the loss of something or something being broken (relationships, faith, trust etc), due to the cross being broken. Therefore, using this image would be appropriate as it incorporated with the idea we had thought of, for our storyline. Also, another reason why we considered using this image is because, generally, paranormal/exorcism films consist of a lot of religious symbols. Hence, we decided to use this image as our production logo, as it would result in audiences easily knowing that our production company produces horror films.

Therefore, we decided to use Photoshop to change the image. We cut out the picture of the cross from the original image and pasted it into Photoshop. In order to change the cross, we decided to remove the sculpture of Jesus included in it, as well as the designing in the middle of the cross and in the circles. We were then left with the plain, simple image shown on the top right. We then changed the original colours of it to black and white, as it would make the image look different yet effective.

Image result for horror background tumblrAlthough we Photoshoped the original image, we still thought that it could be changed further. We were then given a suggestion by Mr. Varghese to draw the outline of the Photoshoped image, to make it look apart. We traced the Photoshoped image and outlined it using a black felt-tip pen, to make it look prominent. Then we took a picture of the image and opened it up on Photoshop, to darken the outline even more. We did this by changing its levels, as shown in the print screen. However, after looking at the final image, we realised that it looked quite unprofessional, therefore, we decided to stick with the Photoshoped image (the first print screen). Despite the changes made, we soon came to the conclusion that instead of using the cross as our production logo, we should save it for our movie trailer/poster instead. This was because the production company may not always create supernormal/exorcism films, and therefore, this image would best fit our production work, rather than our production logo.

Image result for horror background tumblrWe then searched on Google, Church words and synonyms for horror, in order to give us ideas for what we could name our production company. On the left are some of the words that we considered. We then went on the website, Dafont.com, and tried different fonts with the words, to see which ones looked the most appealing and effective. However, we didnt feel any of the words nor fonts, were suitable enough for our production company name, as they didn't fit in with what we had in mind.

Image result for horror background tumblrInstead of having a word, I thought that we should call our production company X productions. I came up with this idea because X could stand for anything, resulting in the production company having larger scope for the sub-genres of movies they make. We agreed on this proposition and decided to search on the internet, whether there was an existing company with the same name, however, there wasnt any company like that. Therefore, we went on Dafont.com and experimented on different fonts that would look appropriate for our production company. The first font we tried out was Think nothing. We thought that this font looked quite appealing and would fit in quite well with the production company name. The second font we tried was from a different website called, 1001fonts.com, and the font was Hells Kittchen Devil God. We liked this font sue to the rough look it had and looked as though someone had written it with a pen. However, our final font, again from Dafont.com was our chosen font for our production company. This font was called, Red Undead. The chose to finalise this as it not only looked a bit creepy due to the blood dripping off it, but it also looked professional at the same time and was what we were aiming for our logo to look like.

Image result for horror background tumblrWe used Photoshop to add colour to the X, in order to make it stand out. We knew straight away that we wanted the colour for this to be red, as red not only connotes danger but also made our production logo stand out.

Thereafter, we used Dafont.com, yet again, to find the right font for the word Pictures, as that is our production company name (X Pictures). We chose to change productions to picture as it sounded more professional and unique. We came across the font, which really caught our eye, called Capture It. We chose to use this font due to the effects it has; the colour white being splattered on the black makes the whole text look as though its missing something to make it complete, which links well with the horror element of our trailer. We decided to keep the colour of the font as black, as we thought that the combination of red and black looks good together and would make our production logo and name stand out as a whole.

Image result for horror background tumblrThen, we positioned the word Pictures in different places to see in which location it would look the best, as we wanted it to be readable, but still look effective.

Also, we thought of including a background colour to make the whole think look more eye-catching. We were suggested by Ms. Ryder-Owen to consider using the colour grey, as it would go well with the black and red. We regarded this suggestion and tried a variety of shades of the colour grey. Some were too light or too dark, however, we finally found the right shade of grey and used that as our final background.

Therefore, we came up with the idea of adding effects to the fonts, which we did, using Photoshop. We added the effect Bevel and Emboss to the word Pictures, as it made the word look bolder. We decided to include more effects to the letter X on our production logo, as we wanted it to stand out the most on the whole thing. We added Bevel and Emboss, Inner Shadow, Inner Glow and Outer Glow. By doing this, our logo, in general, looked more prominent.

ORIGINAL IMAGE

To get a better view of what audiences would think of it, we decided to ask peers on their opinion. Mostly everyone claimed that they liked the original logo better, as it looked more professional and appealing. Taking this into consideration, we chose to stick with the original image (as shown below), rather than the one with the effects, and use that for our trailer.
